    The Señor from Santiago de Chile is standing on the Pop Olympus which is located somewhere on one of the highest mountains of the Andes, and smiles knowingly. Señor Coconut and his orchestra prove that the cradle of all popular music is definitely in South America. _Originally a dancer, _Señor Coconut has never forgotten the importance of the pleasure of a pulsating beat and has matured into a conductor and arranger. __The hot-blooded Latino compositions by Coconut's debut release have been passionately flirting with digital crispyness.

    Then the second album "El Baile Aleman" came out and served the greatest electronic Kraftwerk jewels as Latin slammers to a perplexed public. _This album is a tribute to all great dancers.

    His latest release "Fiesta Songs" is proving that electronic music has finally ceased to exist and is stylistically influenced by the musical genres of the 50es: Mambo, Cha Cha Cha and Merengue. _He covers _Anglo-American pop music and Latino traditionals that are interpreted in a way sounding as if they have been recorded by a 23-headed orchestra around 1968 related to arrangement, sound and mix. _

    Señor Coconut is one of the many alter egos of the Chilean-based, Uwe Schmidt, aka Atom Heart.

    His most recent album, last summer’s ‘Fiesta Songs’, includes his own unique take on Deep Purple's ‘Smoke on the Water’, and The Doors' ‘Riders on the Storm’.

    Their recent sell-out performances in Europe met with widespread critical-acclaim and even approval from Kraftwerk themselves (Kraftwerk's reclusive Florian Schneider also gave a rare interview alongside Señor Coconut).

    Señor Coconut's 2000 ‘El Baile Aleman’ album is an innovative concept of Latin versions of Kraftwerk songs. Although credited to Señor Coconut y Su Conjunto, it was purely the work of Schmidt and three vocalists, who took the Kraftwerk machine ideal and tipped it on its head, putting in programmed cumbia, merengue, and salsa rhythms to flavor the Teutonic stew.

    He can also count David Bowie among his fans (he invited Senor Coconut to perform shows at the 2002 Bowie-curated Meltdown Festival in London’s South Bank including one alongside the Yeah Yeah Yeahs).

    Schmidt has recorded albums under a multitude of psuedonyms such as LB, Geez 'n' Gosh, Eric Satin, Los Samplers, Atom and Tea Time, and of course, Señor Coconut. *Most of his musical output is released on his own Rather Interesting Records label.


    Beat this! The Señor and his combo are in greatest summerly mood to play clubs and festivals in 13 European countries from June to October 2004. In the course of this tour they are even expected for a date on the paradisiac island of Réunion, located in the Indian Ocean between Madagaskar and Mauritius. There they will present themselves as one of the highlights of the 'Orange Festival' on August, 7th.

    Accompanying the tour, multiColor releases an EP featuring the unbeatable Señor Coconut cover of Michael Jackson's "Beat It" – the platinum hit that danced the charts all the way through to the top in 1983. The original gained entry in the "Hall of Fame's 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll". Accordingly the new version ought to find its place in the "Hall of Fame's Songs That Shape Your Body"…

    It is just logical to accelerate "Beat It" to Merengue, one of the most popular and hottest dances in Latin America, since the Funk having distinguished Michael Jackson's dance style by which masses have been carried away into becoming hysterical before fainting, is becoming even more electrifying when increasing speed and syncopation – that is the law of the groove. Besides the listener senses the soft touch of a wink of the eye which is fanning the band's precision work – their tightness seems to be not from this world.

    In a subtle manner the "Latin Bass & Breaks Mix" by DJ and producer Enne from Innsbruck/Austria packs the motor of the Coconut version – which is restrained lurking in the background – in a modern, aerodynamic Drum & Bass chassis to demonstrate the obvious congeniality of temperaments of rhythms from old and new worlds in a reverse way Señor Coconut has been taken. Discreet keyboard accents and percussive filigree shift hip gears into highest transmission ratio while in between Downbeat breaks encourage to refuel body fluids. Having been influenced by Jazz, Funk, World Music, Electro, Dub, Latin, Acid and House from 1983, Enne broke his journey in Milan and Munich among other cities and played the biggest party hells in the European area as a resident at Amnesia/Ibiza via countless Italian, Austrian and German clubs to the Omen/Frankfurt. His releases include productions for Innvision and Bikini Records.

    Ruben Rodriguez, Puerto Rican cult DJ for the bohemian, whose interpretation of Coconut's "Electrolatino" already caused quite a stir by filling the club with acid waves up to the ceiling, now heavily crashes High Energy Electro into Brazilian Baile Funk (which is the most innovative, international battle style at the moment) by means of his mighty percussion workout. On the occasion El Hombre Ácido approaches the original musical matter as brutally unconcerned as only a producer who is operating far from every calculated, clearly defined European scene is capable of doing. This best of all procedures results in a sensational, highly explosive, sexually loaded funkyness. His "Acid Latino Percussion Mix" is definitely the best measure to command a new generation of physicalness. This monster track is simply beating everything!
