Problem with Quake III Arena Fog

This goes out to any QIII mappers here... I'm having trouble with fog (hellfogdense to be precise, the red fog). In a sizeable pit of fog, the fog close to the player looks fine, but in the distance the fog isn't visible (just the walls surrounding the fog pit).
