they're cute and they haven't evolved to insects yet.

considering the amount of skin humans shed as dust I'd rather have them then lots of nastier thing. - and you don't see then during the day.

    What harm are they doing?

Try leaving your curtains open at night and by the time you wake in the morning they'll all be in hiding again. :)

If you *really* hate them and want to get rid of them, increase your spider population!

You'll find that these guys are both low cost and effective and will keep your silverfish numbers in check! Honest!

They eat paper that's what! If they get in amongst your books you'll find lots of holes in the pages before very long, believe me! And they have a habit of following you when you move house, again from personal experience :(

Other than that they're fascinating creatures ... very old, and relatively low on the evolution scale, a bit like really tiny trilobites :)

Dark, damp and warm seems to be their favourite combination.

    Agreed!
Dark, damp and just not too cold!

Though...I *never* heard of them climbing into bed before!

Mine are running around the downstairs toilet floor in the mornings... it's not damp but they seem to come in under the skirting boards probably to eat the toilet paper. :)

They *are* fascinating... I never kill them, I could never think of a good reason to, to be honest.

UNDER YOUR PILLOW!??!!?OMG - i'd freak out...anyhoo my cat lifts the edge of the carpet up with his claw and tries to catch them!!

Another annoying thing with these pesky little critters is that they move house with you when you move! It was about 5 houses ago that we first got them, in Germany, and they moved with us to Holland and survived two moves there before we finally lost them! Luckily they haven't surfaced here in Ireland yet :)
