In my opinion, neither are worst....some people are $hit!, some are good..

Maybe, but perhaps that's down to some ancient genetic code. Men were MEANT to be better drivers so they could chaffeur women around everywhere and women can file their nails etc. while they're been driven around.

It seems that there is a differance between men and womens brains that makes women worse at reversing(you're just going to have to take my word for it), other than that, there shouldn't be too much difference. Old women do seem to be the worst drivers though.

Men's brains are better suited for driving so we're better at it. I reckon the 'women are safer drivers than men' myth is because there's still a lot more male drivers than women.

On a side note : Have you ever watched women driving? 9 times out of 10 they're all tense, hunched forward over the wheel with their face all scrunched up and their mouth hanging open. I know this girl with a chicken chaser (Cinqenchento) and she drives with her face almost pressed to the windscreen! I was over-taking her with one hand on the wheel while fiddling with the radio then waved at her, and she was concentrating so much on what she was doing she didn't even see. I mean look, no hands!

I was just thinking, maybe men say women are shít drivers, because they actually pay attention to the rules of the road. Therefore they drive slower etc, actually stop and stop signs. Therefore they are better drivers legally, but men say they're **** cause they're slow

I've found that old people are the worst drivers around here, well, some of them anyway. Some of course are fine but then you have the ones that don't pay any attention to what's going on around them on the road, I've seen some who just drive on out of sideroads unto the main road without ever looking to see if there was any oncoming traffic, happened me once when I was about 15 yards away, people who show no regard for the most basic and common sense rules of the road and for a week afterwards I was quite paranoid about old people darting out of junctions and into me.

- women hit inanimate objects 4 times more often than men (rotfl true methinks)

Oi!! 1) i'm a woman, and i've only ever run one person over - far fewer than most men i expect.
2) the fire engine that was on the wrong side of the road and nearly ran into me when i was learning last time was being driven by men.

Ever notice how insurance for under 25 males is insane?
That is because we (yes, I belong to this group) are the worst drivers. It is not a generalisation, it's fact. We are terrible drivers who are more interested in speed than safety.

This is pants, cause the roads are there to be driven on!!! Pedestrians are there to be killed!!! Cars are there to be crashed/crashed into!!!

Joking aside, there are a lot of senior citizens who are driving that never took a test in their life. Most of them are good drivers (if a little slow), but some of them are clueless on newer road phenomonen such as Roundabouts and motorways. I have seen (3 times) seniors going the wrong way around a roundabout - once causing an accident and the other 2 occasions narrowly avoiding them. I'll bet you a pound their policy didn't go up in price, but the poor unfirtunate who swerved into another car to aviod them would've been in a bad way. Thankfully, no one was injured, but it's cause for concern that there are that many peolpe on the roads that really don't know how the reads work!

This is not an anti senior thing - this was an example. I'm sure there's loads of people who don't understand. My own mother who's been driving (accident free) for 30 years gets lost whilst driving around Dublin (and she lived there for long enough). I think that's more to do with her complete inability to follow simple instrctions...

And sorry Dav, - whether you believe it to be fact or not, it IS, by definition, a generalisation - to say that all males under 25 are the worst drivers. Statistically, perhaps, the highest number of accidents are caused by that very group, - that doesn't mean we're all "terrible drivers who are more interested in speed than safety".

I know I'm certainly not.

Bleh, statistics. For all we know, more males under 25 are in accidents because there are more people under this group who are driving. People should not be penalised because of this generalisation and then get their insurance lowered through no claims bonus. No claims bonus and car insurance in this country is the biggest scam I’ve ever seen.

I dunno about caused. The fact is : statistics lie. 9 out of 10 statistics are made up on the spot There was a study done in england that showed all the commonly held myths of motor insurance are wrong.

It's well known that most fatalities/serious injuries in road accidents are to young males. This is simply because there tends to be more of us in the car. Young men are far more likely to own a car before a young woman of the same age, and because most of our friends live near us, we often give each other lifts when we go out. With older people, their friends tend to live further away, so they tend to drive to wherever they meet separatly.

The myth that women have less accidents than men is actually true, in a way. There are far more men drivers, covering more miles than women drivers on the road. Because men spend more time driving than women (on average) we are far more likely to have an accident. If you compare the numbers proportionatly, women fare neglibly worse.

It's well known that the most common type of accident is at a t-juntion, with someone turning right onto the main road. It was found that old people were most frequently involved in these.
