I have a laptop in my bedroom i use for playing music,(mp3s)
the laptop is so quiet i can not tell when it is on or off!
    It is a P2 233...
I want to get a faster machine but dont have the money so gonna buy a computer,
at least - box, motherboard processor memory...something around 1ghz
(just to play films and music). Maybe a P3 or P4...

Anybody have this sort of setup?
Is it possible to get a machine this quiet?

    Thanks!

go to www.silentpcreview.com, read some of the articles, browse through their forums. Its possible, but it takes a lot of effort, and you really need to chose parts that will work together silently.

whenever i need to download stuff overnight I use my laptop, for the quietness. My PC sounds like a jet engine (still :()

it would require investing in an expensive silent PSU and passive northbridge cooling to get it properly quiet

check out this link here i use the CPU heat sink and fan mentioned its a good model, my PSU fan is now the problem though :dunno: using sound proofing foam greatly reduces the noise level...if all else fails use the old reliable Liquid Nitrogen as decribed here just remember to wrap up well :D

you could always build an old PC with a PII CPU, passivly cooled.
