Ok, I'm sure a few of you will think these are stupid questions, but I'll ask them anyway.

My brother and I each have a 54g wireless card installed in our pc's. They both work fine, but we're having trouble holding a steady connection. The PC's are only a few rooms apart, but we only get about 30-35% signal strength.

So, do we need an access point or something? The network is currently set as ad-hoc, and works most of the time, but over a distance of about 10-15m I didn't expect the connection to be dropped about 75% of the time.
Also, do I need to manually assign IP adresses? Both Pc's are currently set up to automatically assign them, but if manually setting them would help please let me know.

Any other help or advice you can give would be much appreciated. Cheers guys.
