now with 5 km to go he is nearly certain to win, a freanch man in yellow and another winning the stage, this will have been a memorable Bastille Day for the French cycling fans (known as the nation!)

Great victory for Virenque. Merckx got dropped by the peloton when they finally caught him... pity after all that work. Doesn't have his fathers legs unfortunately for himself.

I'd love to see the GC contenders attempt to take more stage wins (general comment).
