One day i powered on the laptop and was horrifyed to see it doing... nothing. There was no smell of burning or what not. Dodgy LCD screen maybe?

    any LEDs flashing at all?
    any LED on the adapter?
take out battery and try and boot from ac adapter.
connect an external monitor via VGA port to see if its the LCD
hold down on/off button for 20 secs and try and boot again.

what kind of laptop is it?
    any warranty left on it?
    could be dodgy power button.

    power LEDs on
there are no LEDs on the adapter to begin with and i don't have an external VGA monitor to experiment with. :(

is the computer makin any normal boot noises? Fan? or HDD??
if yeah, then it could be the LCD.

are you getting anything on screen at all? POST?
Manufacturers logo? if yes then its not your LCD. if not then it could be.
