    i'm looking at getting a case fan [or 2]
    there is a 120mm on jes that is rated at 17db.
    that rocks.

    but would it be even quiter if i got 2 x 9db 80mm fans?
    the airflow works out about the same.

    dB = decibel

    so 9dB+9dB =12dB - so 5dB quieter than 17dB
    (10dB sounds twice as loud)

    I'm guessing that means 12dBm
    Also depends if they both used real dB or one/both used "marketing dB's"

    Note: if a pair of fans are close in speed the beat frequency can give rise to a low droning sound.

    For low noise Large Slow fans are what you want.
