while switching on the min pc i kept getting errors all over the shop. So i ran memtest and it shows faulty ram.

    While i have 2 sticks of a 256 and 512.

I took out the 512 to test the 256 one and still errors in memtest so i took out the 256 and slotted in the 512 and when i turned the computer on i got a nice burning smell. Plugged out the power and went looking for the source of the burning. I found it my stick of 512 ram.

Its got two black marks where two gold pins should be.

My question is the whole motherboard gone now oc just the slot where the ra got burned in.

The ram was in the first slot and i dont have any spare ram to test it so i have to order some first.

How can i tell if the motherboard is fried and should i ever put ram into the first slot again.

    Its been that sorta week.:(

depends if u can get the teeth out and wether there is any damage done. Hard to say without visibly seing it.

I did this once and managed to fish the 2 teeth out and it worked for a while till i replaced it.

Can you not just use one of the other slots?

nope not the wrong way round but i was a tad forcefull with it.

Ill have to test it when i get my credit card balance sorted and see what happens.

If its the board is gone , ill do a total rebuild of the machine.
