Hi Guys (I would also say girls but I don’t think any read this forum, well apart from Luke.)

The next “Super Payday €50 plus €5 registration freezeout tournie" is confirmed.

The date is 2nd August and the venue is again the Merrion casino. Registration starts @ 1900 and we hope to get things going as close to 1930 as possible.

We are hoping that this one will be even bigger and better than the last one.

So, get the date in your diaries and sign up your friends.

    More detail will follow.

Is that the bank holiday? There may be alot of people away that weekend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,788 ✭✭✭MrPudding

It is the bank holiday. We decided that having it closer to payday was more important though. Most people that go away for a bank holiday tend to come back on the Monday.

    Excellent.

    Terminator rules?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,788 ✭✭✭MrPudding

If you have any friends that are interested bring them along. We are hoping to get 70 people for the next tournie. If we have more that's OK.

I would imagine we will have the terminator rule. I think, though, we may increase the size of the prize. If we get enough people this should not be an issue.

No chance of a 25 freezeout happening?

Put €25 on a horse at 2/1 or better the day before.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Thats luck, Pokers about skill :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,788 ✭✭✭MrPudding

At the moment we will just have the 50. We may try to run something else at another time. A 25 game might be an option.

Then why not pay the €50 if you have the skill?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

A 25 game would be greatly appreciated.

To the above. Poker is skill and luck. That's undeniable. 25 is allot less than 50 when you think about it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,199 ✭✭✭krattapopov

    you could say it's 50% less ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Because its a whole 50 quid, which while is about skill will eventually come down to a race as it always does, and I don't really feel like putting 50 quid on a poker game.
However I would very much like to play a game against all the boards people cause they are good and it would be enjoyable, similarily I feel there are a lot of people who would hold the same opinion that I do is that 50 quid is a very large amount of money to pay, and while you might get 40 people at 50 quid you might get 100 at 25

    I'm in PHB's boat.

25 would be nice to have every so often.

Christ on a stick. We did a survey and the 50 game was what people wanted, that is what we organised. The monthly game will stay at 50. For those that think that is too much go to the Fitz and ask Luke to make his 100 game a 25 and see how that goes down.:D

It does not follow that if the cost was cut in half the field would double. A lot of people would be of the opinion that the prize fund raised from a 25 game would not be worth the effort.

So once more. The monthly game will stay at 50. If this is too much for you don’t go but watch this space. We are trying to organise other tournies but, believe me, it is not that easy. The Fitz and the Merrion both have pretty full tournament schedules so it takes a bit of work. We will do our best to try to accommodate as many people as possible.

Does anyone acually think they can win some money from the €50 tournie - cause the way people are whinging about the cost you would think that they are simply handing over the money without anything in return

Last month we gave 9 prizes - you dont get that in the Fitz/Merrion. The top prize was €1000 - well worth an investment of €50.

And don't forget - you get a whole nights entertainment - even if you don't win anything.

So lets recap - for €55 you get

A social occasion out on the town
Poker for an average of 3 hours - unless you are me that is :)
A good laugh with your mates from boards.ie
    No organisational responsibilities
A large spread of the prize fund - 9 prizes
And oh yes - potentially €1000 in your back pocket.

It's totally not worth it - lets go to the pub instead, spend €100 on drink we will piss away and then get mugged going home when we are too drunk to notice - and lets do this twice a week - spending €55 a MONTH is just too hard to budget for - ffs they'll ask us to use our brians next!!

nope - I have a collection of Brians out the back that are good for various tasks - but I am reluctant to use them for any old thing - I have to be selective ;)

I dont see this advertised on the fitz website, what day is it on every mointh?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,611 ✭✭✭Corben Dallas

Def goin to be there see if one of my poker playing friends will go as well.

Ref the €50 freeze out, fell this is the perfect amount once a month. €25 imo is peanuts and would also lead to looser play cause €25 is a small amount of money, whereas €50 requires more thought and would get more serious poker play.

Like the idea of the nametags......could this be organised? it certainly has potential for laughs ie
    Hello my name is.....
    SLIM SHADY!
    :D LOL
(poss with the option of using joke names +user names? )

+ plus has the merrion got its finger out and got decent touranment numbered chips yet?
    /gets off hobby horse :p

EDIT! whats the terminator rule u speak of?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,788 ✭✭✭MrPudding

This tournament takes place in the Merrion not the Fitz. It may appear on the schedule there soon, it is technically not a Merrion tournament but a private function.

When you pay your entry you will receive your tournament chips and also a terminator chip. Anytime someone goes all in they must also put in their terminator chip. If you get put out the person that put you out get your chips and your terminator chip. The TC can be cashed in for real money. We skim an amount off the prize fund to pay for the terminator chips. Last time it was only €2, this time we hope to make it a fiver (subject to us getting a decent turnout.)

I don't drink so I'd never spend €100 a night on drink. Hehe.

I thought there was allot of interest for a €25 game. €50 is cool, €25 for me and probably the minority would just be allot easier on the oul pocket.

I think its a great set up. Thanks for your efforts guys (and girls, you know who you are)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,638 ✭✭✭Iago

I'll definitely play in this, which is bad news for everyone else :) still with 8 other prizes to be won at least some of you will have a chance :P

I should have 4-5 others with me as well, I was raging I missed the last one so really looking forward to this

Whoever suggested the nametags, I hope they are taking the piss cause I ain't wearing one. Also, I don't think a €25 would create a greater interest - pratically everyone who posts on Boards Poker was at the last one - I just don't see where the extra people will come from. However if you were going to organise more weekly events then maybe you could be creative with the buy-ins.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,788 ✭✭✭MrPudding

That is kind of where we are coming from Davey. €25 monthly is not very attractive but might work better weekly or fortnightly. We are working on these thing so keep the suggestions coming. At the same time we are unlikely to change the €50 monthly game for the foreseeable future.

Right everyone get ready to shout at the noob!

What the hell is a freezeout tournament?

Me and about 10-15 of my mates have been having regular (2-4week) games and are getting seriously into our poker.....3 or 4 of us in particular.
We want to branch out and see just how good or even crap we really are.

What do you recommend we do?
Come along to this freezeout match, or go to a free in night?

I have only signed up for this today by the way, but I'd say I'll be here alot from now on so be nice.

P.S. You may want to save this posting, as it'll probably be worth money once I've won a few WPT championships. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,886 ✭✭✭Marq

A freeze-out tournament is one in which you can't rebuy more chips if you go out. Once the stack that you started with is gone, you're out. Freeze-outs are generally much tighter games than tournies with rebuys, as there isn't the safety net of being able to get more chips if you lose an all-in bet encouraging people to play looser.

I'd recommend going along to the Fitz of a thursday just to get acquainted with what it's like to play poker in a casino tournament (see this thread for information), but I would definitely come along to the 50 euro freeze-out organised by boards - it's an excellent game. good standard, good atmosphere and good prize-money.

Oh, and everyone that posts here has one a couple of WPT championships. You'll soon see it's no big deal.

    Nice one.
    Sounds good.

    Thanks Marq.

How about havin' the top 8 finalists from last months game wear a target, so we can all gun for them? :D

The 25 game is in the pipeline, be cool.

This time no bad beat prize but I like the idea of gunning for the previous winners and will work an idea around that maybe.

Will write more when in a country with qwerty keyboards. Stupid French.

Thanks again lads for all the organising, really lookin forward to it - right after the BSOP july final too so I can wear my crown :p

Any chance of HCGA after or are you renting the room by the hour?

Maybe worst come to worst, they can even give us dealers and take a rake in place of rental?

Just an idea for some month.

    Bo!
