    I installed broadband...

i updated windows XP to SP1 and all the updates...

and now my writer burns for 3 mins, and then stops writing, shows an error message and i cant use the cd again!

REALLY annoying, any suggestions would be super! its hardly the SP1 pack is it?

Is your drive in DMA mode or PIO mode.

Rightclick on "My Computer", and click on properties.
    Go to the "Hardware" tab.
    Click on Device Manager
Look for the IDE controller section, and double click on each listed controller checking to see each drive is in DMA mode.

How long have you had your CD-writer? Maybe its time you get a new one?

    shows an error message
Is it any sort of helpful error message?

You aren't using an old version of Nero?

Is it possible that they released a patch or something like that which you could check out?

I had mine for roughly the same amount of time - it just died for no reason at all. works every 4/5th boot now, and even then it dies before windows is fully loaded.

time for a new one :(

I had problem with my burner after updating windows, done a clean re-install and downloaded all updates except the high-mat support update (something along those lines) and it still works great.
I'm sure there's a better way of uninstalling the updates than a clean windows install.
    Woth a try anyway

Okay that log is a bit long and complex..

On a simplier note did the buffer indicator in Nero turn from green to red at any stage?

I'm going to try and see if i can work out what that log file is saying with regards to your problem; somewhere in the latter quarter is where we'll find answers i think...
    :dunno:

The ThreadedTransfer.cpp errors are generating a good number of hits on google.
If its any consulation; your not the only one suffering from this;)

Hmmm; the only thing useful i found while shifting through wads of the afore mentioned subject is that if you could update the firmware / drivers of your burner; it could help:rolleyes:

Here's the most useful bit of info i've found:
    http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?threadid=49710

Looks like you could have a solution on hand; personally i'd rather not regress updates; but then again i suppose it's better than having a compromised piece of hardware:rolleyes:

Have you tried burning at a slower speed? Have you tried increasing your buffer size? Have you plenty of free space on your buffer drive? Have you defragged recently?

I had an 8x burner die on me last week, but its been in almost constant use for over 3 years, and wasn;t entirely unexpected. It makes clicking noises every so often now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,835 ✭✭✭StickyMcGinty

yea it worked twice for me, but it failed once in between the buffer was going down and up all over the place the first time it worked but the last time it worked for me it stayed at 100%. i upgraded to nero 6.

its very unstable, but i'll see what the story is with the next copy i make..
