    Hi all, I just got a NEC 2510a DVD+/-RW.

Has anyone used DVD-R 8x media in this drive successfully, and if so, what brand was it. Most websites only get 4x speed from 8x media in their reviews.

If this is the wrong forum, please redirect me!

    Thanks!

Quite a few of the drives can actually write at 8x on decent quality 4x media. You might find some information about suitable media on www.cdrinfo.com.

Also, quite often manufacturer firmware upgrades are released to increase media compatability for DVD writers.

A techi in Peats passed me on this info when I asked about 8x media

"there is not much difference between the two speeds and the 8x really only kicks in the finalization process of the burn - so your only gaining 3-4 mins"

Avoid Bulkpaq brand - they are cheap but have only caused me grief

afaik 8x speeds make about 7-8 mins difference... i can burn an 8x disc in just over 10 mins, but a 4x one takes a fair bit longer. up to 17-20 mins. (can't remember the exact figures now)

EDIT: Yeah, it saves at least 6 minutes to burn at 8x rather than 4x.

    I'm using Datawrite Classic 4.7Gb General Purpose 8X DVD-R.

Only have the NEC drive a short while, so haven't burned many yet, but so far so good.

I'm using ritek g05's at the moment. But have had some great experiences with fujifilm (datawrite grey). Going to try the new prodisc s04's soon as had great experiences with the s03's.
