Dont know whats happened but i tried installing a game, and neither of my cd or dvd drives are showing up in windows. Theyre not being recognised at all, and not showing up any cd/dvd i put in the drives. Any ideas what could be causing this?
Ive went to system-> hardware profiles and its showing a yellow exclamation mark as it does when there is a problem.....

    Thanks

restarting didnt fix it for me :(

No ,no new hardware recently.....ill try a registry repair program, as it says its a problem with the registry settings for the drives.

Do you have an Audigy Platinum sound card by any chance? I recall reinstalling win2k pro on my machine a while back, and one of the audigy software/driver (can't recall which) updates that i'd downloaded caused my system to loose it's DVD & CD-RW drive.

Ended up just re-installing again (minus that particular patch)

strangely enough, I have an audigy platinum too. must be a bug in the driver installation program.
