It's out in the middle of nowhere (Essex :) ) so not much to do or see.

It's overground rail not the tube to get to London. Terminates at Liverpool St Station

Like pork99 said, Stansted is dramatically outside the tube area.

Stensted Express. Don't cry at the price.

As this site says, changing at Tottenham Hale may suit you (particularly if you want to go somewhere on the Piccadilly line)

If you're travelling on a budget, the bus to Victoria is much cheaper (under a tenner single, about 12 return). I've never taken it but it'll certainly take longer.

edit: Ah I see you're only spending 5 hours there. You've no time to go anywhere. I'd recommend sleeping, eating or pretending you're a pilot.

Wear a tricolour t-shirt. Guaranteed to be kept busy for an hour or so then.

I presume the 5 hours also includes the advance checkin time for your outgoing flight so youy barely have time to leave the airport.

If it were me I'd grab a few newspapers/periodicals (Irish Times, Guardian, Phoenix, Private Eye, ... ) or bring a good book to pass the time.

Has Stansted any wireless access points?

    If you had a laptop....

    A good book.

You really won't have time to leave the airport and come back, it's so far away from pretty much everything.
