Clearly the likes of Kurosawa, Miyazaki and Kitano don't count.

Hero is ten times the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is.

Voted for Crouching Tiger - I liked it, much more style and substance that a lot of the splatter fests up there. It was also the highest grossing foreign language film ever (is that still the case??), bringing asian cinema to a much wider audience.

ps: But wasn't Kitano in BR??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

Well I meant as a director.
Also, his role in BR wasn't exactly huge.

My vote would go to either Seven Samurai or Wings of Honneamise. A poll for this topic is a bit silly.

From the list here, I went for Ringu.
CTHD isn't the highest foreign language movie really, that goes to 'The Passion of the Christ'...

The Seven Samari of course! Either that or Shogun Assassin!

    What about Hero?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 920 ✭✭✭elvis2002

Hero is better than any movie there.

I also think the korean movie "Shiri" deserves a mention.

Dead Or Alive 1 was fairly crazy, audition was mental too. But i suppose al os mikes films are mad with the maddest being ichi.

I'd go for Hero. Simply because it was the most amazing movie Ive seen. Just mind blowing good.

Ichi man, we love Miike here don't we boys.
And Tadanobu Asano was great in it, he reminds me of a Japanese Johnny Depp

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,372 ✭✭✭Kone

Is it an actual extened edition or is there an hour of credits? If it is a three hour version of the film, is it much better than the 2 hour that I would have seen (on the Chinese 2 disc set from yesasia.com)?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 287 ✭✭iasc

not to sure, never seen the extended edition, reckon get it for the sake of it
180 mins seems very long, since the one in have is just over an hour and a half long

They're all legit alright but its a disaster of a website.I spent an hour this morning getting set up and ordering a couple of dvd's only to be told
"Transaction failed,Failure URL Invalid or Missing".I left it for a while and tried
again later but keep getting Transaction failed.

The House of Flying Daggers, from the same dude who did 'Hero'. Heard a lot about it, and I have ordered one on cd-wow hk today (HKD 89$).

I'd like to add Versus and Infernal Affairs both fanastic films.

I can see a lot of people have drawn your attention to it, Wrecked, but the selection you gave was poor.

Not only were classic animes like Akira and Ghost in the Shell left out but films like Infernal Affairs (a remake is already in pre-production), The Returner and Shiri were also neglected. Tsk, tsk.

Anyway, I voted for CTHD cos I haven't seen Hero yet...
