I bought a 750ml (500ml with 50% free) bottle of Pepsi (which i was charged E1 for in Dunnes, E1.15 in Mace) and was charged a outrageous E1.89!!

Tried complaining to the shop about the price but they persisted they were always that price!

Be careful with those promotions in smaller shops.

    Cowboys, buncha cowboys!!

on a side note has anyone ever used the shop in Connolly train station? It has to be the dearest shop in the country. Crisps are all around 70-90 cent, same for bars, bottle of coke is around 1.60. Theyre money grabbing b*stards. And people still queu up to use it

Tesco are notarious for this scam.
They always have buy one get one free ,or 50% extra free when in fact they have jacked up the price on the item so there is no saving.
Saw a box of chicken dippers for 2.99 .
Next week buy one get one free for 5.99.

the two centra shops on O'Connell street are owned by the same people but have completely different prices. The one on Lwr O'Connell street i thought was outragously dear, then i went to the one on upper and was disgusted.

Jesus, avoid Centra on Upper O'Connell Street like the plague! Anyway, interestingly, Pepsi themselves seem to be playing a part in this price hike for their '50% free' promo.

In Musgrave's, doing some shopping for the school shop recently, I noticed that Pepsi, since this promotion started, had gone up significantly in wholesale price (25-30% before V.A.T.) which had a significant impact on any benefits that the promotion may have had.

Anyone seen the new 25% extra free lucozade drink?
I first noticed this in spar Milltown, thought it was great.looked at the price on the shelf and it said - 500ml lucozade 1.59 (not 100% on price). went up to counter and it was 2.49. i only noticed as i left the shop and looked at my receipt.
what lucozade have done is introduced a new 600ml bottle and given 25% extra to make it 750ml.Then they've gone and raised the price by nearly a euro!!

i would hate to burst peoples bubbles on this but i have worked part-time in supervalu for about 4 years now. (god that is an admission(sp?) i hate to make)
but 90% of all "speacial offers" are bs. i can tell the special offers in advance because quite simply the average customer will compare prices 1 week to the next there fore most 10% off offers are simply the price an item was before they jacked it up.

I work on the fruit and veg and to be honest it is the greatest scam ever if you want cheap fruit and veg go to a fruit and veg shop because they will be buying off a farmers market therefore their prices are far cheaper. the average mark up on most products in a super market is 16% on top of the wholesale price. with fruit and veg the mark up is 23% which is on top the already jacked up wholesaler price who has bought off the farmers market.

    thats my rant for now.

    Hmmm...

Having worked in Dunnes for a year or so i've found that all (that i have bothered to read) special offers, like buy on get one free, are legit.

    In my expierence anyway....

Somehow I find all these posts hard to believe, if you are so convinced about the price hikes why not complain to the director of consumer affairs. I mean how many of you have actually got of your as*'s and complained to teh D.O.C.A.'s?

Are you 100% this is the case? I can imagine it happening to a certain extent but thats just crazy. So crazy it sounds impossible or a mistake.

I would be inclined to agree. Four/nearly five years working in Quinnsworth/Crazy Prices/Tesco and I genuinely can't remember coming across anything similar to what has been mentioned here or it even being highlighted to me by a customer...

Mind you, if it is happening they deserve to be slated...

Primarily the not-so-special offers are those "twin packs" etc. Most supermarkets are quite good at their own special offers "2 for 1" deals etc. They have to be since Lidl and Aldi have entered the market and started to eat into their profits!

As far as I know, Lidl and Aldi have not had that much impact on any of the big supermarkets here... Tesco's market share has steadily grown since they entered the market here, with this year also being included..

Whose market share are Tesco taking? Superquinn/Supervalue? Because Dunnes doesn't seem to be waning, certainly not in my part of the world.

    http://www.tesco.ie/about/annual04.htm
Tesco Ireland recorded growth in sales to €1,917 million in the year to 28 February 2004, an increase of 9.5% on the previous year. Growth was recorded in all customer trading areas including stores, on-line shopping and petrol filling stations.

    http://archives.tcm.ie/irishexaminer/2002/04/11/story26500.asp
Its sales figures suggests the British-based group retained its dominance of the Irish grocery sector with an estimated 24% market share.

    http://archives.tcm.ie/businesspost/2004/04/25/story671464728.asp
Market leader Tesco increased its market slice by 0.6 percentage points to 24.8 per cent in the year to February 1.

    http://www.tesco.ie/about/results2002.htm
Tesco Ireland recorded 8.9% growth in sales to €1,661 million in the year to 23 February 2002, following growth of 6.7% in the previous financial year.

All those were on a quick search.. Cant be bothered finding more....

Half of that increase is inflation. How's their net profit doing?
(I know you've provided a full link but I try to avoid company accounts these days if I can)

Incorrect, Superquinn Finglas have reported a 30% drop in customers since a nearby Lidl opened. Superquinn's profits as a group, however, are maintained by other stores and newly launched stores.

What I saw is 100% factual - unless Musgrave's hiked the price themselves - then Pepsi did. No two ways about it. That was the week our shop stopped buying a (probably insignificant to every other shop in the world) €300 a week supply of Pepsi, and switched back to the normally more expensive Coca Cola instead, much to my delight.

I don't have exact info.. I see that Lidl's market share went up my .8% last year...

Basically a familty member is a middle manager and he was telling me that market share is increasing - reported in share holder meetings.... I am not going looking for more links TBH...

They don't specify profitability for Ireland alone...

I'm not saying it isn't, but have you actualy done anything about it?

What did pepsi say when you confronted them?
What did Musgrave say when yuo confronted them?
Have you had any response yet from teh Director of Consumer affair's?

I'm sure everyone would like to know what is happening / you are doing?
