...found out that you know somebody who posts here in the real world (tm) as well? (Excluding ppl you've introduced to boards yourself/met at a boards event).

I haven't but I imagine that it would be weird.

yeah, its happened to me once before... was a nice co-incidence (and made me paranoid, he knew my username was flogen, but I didnt know what username he went under, or that he even used boards.ie, so when he told me one night in the pub he was watching me or something to that effect, i spent the next week or so trying to figure out who he might be... i was way off too).

I sometimes get a feeling one or two people here are people i know, or kinda know, but am never sure.

Yeah a fair few people from college, and my cousin as well. I've been around here since this place was called the wwwboard so I met people through various quake/tribes/CS lans etc...

Theres so many people registered these days though, you're bound to know at least a few, Ireland being such a small place.

satchmo first showed me the boards

Imposter was in college with me. He guessed who I was through a post about college and then wouldn't tell me who he was. I had to trawl through old posts and make a guess.

Yes and it gets scary sometimes. I was even going out with someone before not knowing they were on boards.

I'm sure there's probably a few. Hasn't happened me yet though...

I know there was one guy called Dave that I used to work with in Dunnes in Galway that was a poster here before I joined up myself. Don't know what he posted under though...

Theres a fair few people here that I went to college with. I've picked out people over the years based on information they've given in posts.

A bit of socially engineering is always fun too. It's amazing how much information you can dig up about some people based on what they post online.

    it is scary sometimes

True - but I figure if somebody recognises me from my posts, they know me pretty well in the real world (tm) anyway.

Then there's all those times I posted my credit card details on boards as well...

    (not - don't bother searching)

Happened loads of times over the years. It's now at the stage where I'm quite surprised that someone hasn't at least heard of Boards if they use the internet much.

    yeah my cousin ;)

Hey Raph, you be mentioning peoples name on th'internet and it could be unlucky for you. What if this guy Googled himself and found your post? He might come around your house and choke you on vomit.

There's a poster here called jonno who, judging from the forums he posts on, likes films and rugby. I knew a fella in college named John (sometimes jono) who also likes films and rugby. I did a search on the poster matched with words such as DCU and the town and county he was from, but nothing matched. That's not to say that it's not him, maybe he's just never mentioned those things.

I'm not gonna go PM him though.

.... instead you'll just keep cyberstalking him? :)

To answer the q, I also found out that I knew someone from 'real life' that was a boards member. The revelation was what I'd imagine meeting a fellow freemason would be like?

Maybe one of the admins should appove a particular boards.ie 'funny handshake' or 'trouser roll technique' so that we can all indentify each other 'out there'.

Ha, I never said I followed him around boards. I saw the name one day combined with a post that made me go 'hmmmm', so I searched his posts for terms that might confirm his identity, and in the process noticed that he was into films and rugby. Perhaps scarily, it doesn't even take stalking to find out something about a person on here, 10mins of searching will do.
