Hi i was putting in a new hard drive into a dell 2400. It runs fine but on start up the dell bios loading screen takes a good 20 second to go away (Previously took a few seconds) and then goes into the windows startup screen.

Anyone seen this before? Any solutions?

I need to get this sorted asap so any sugestions are appricated :)

    Spec:

    p4 2.66
    512 ram
20 gb hd (also happens with a 120 gb)
    Nvidia geforce fx 5200
    Sound blaster live 5.1
    Win Xp

    Thanks

jumper positions (master or slave or cable select)
cable , first or last slot ?
which cable is it on, there are 2 in a Dell
hard drive pre delay value in Bios (in seconds) reduce a tad maybe 3 is enough

Hmmm; i had this problem before on one of the old Dell XPSs. Though it only happened after i flashed updated the BIOS. Apparently a bunch of long winded redundant checks got re-enabled. Disabled them again and it booted up normally...

Not exactly your situation; but seems BIOS related as well. Check the options in the BIOS; as well as seeing if there's any updates from Dell for the BIOS.

Maybe it's the way you have your harddrive switches configured? I'm not too experienced with jumper settings so thats just a wild stab. Though i don't think it is if your machine boots up eventually...
