I wasnt a great fan of the iMac but are the eMac's any better at all

I would prefer a standalone machine where the monitor isnt a combi but for budget reason i may have to go for these

If your on a budget, they'll do the job. Personally, I dont like em. Weigh a ton, and too slick to hold onto them comfortably while moving em around.

What exactly will you be using it for?

Nothing too heavy on the processor, mainly storing data that then can be shared to others on a network, I know its not the ideal solution but those other computers are really old.

I like it. I like the bright, natural, viewable-all-angles and very flat CRT. I like the minimal desk space overhead. I like being able to stuff it in the car and take it places for location recordings with only a small bag of bits to take too (keyboard, mouse, USB audio box, two mics, mic stand). I like the built-in speakers, even if they're not quite as "thunderous" as Apple would like me to think. Feck, I even like the way it looks now! (wasn't too keen at first) My orange iMac looks positively dated next to it.

    I think they're a bargain.
