Memorex CD Writer not working with Win2k?

    Hi All,
I have a 'Memorex 32MAXX 1240AK' internal CD writer. When the machine had Windows 98 first addition installed, the writer worked fine. I have now updated the machine to Windows 2000 Pro, but windows doesn't recongnise the drive as recordable. The software that came with the writer was Roxio CD Creator and Nero, but neither add any support for the drive and can only create an image to the hard disk. (e.g. when I use Nero, and select 'Recorder' device, there is only 1 option, the hard disk). Windows device manager recognises the drive and says there are no errors with the driver or device.
    Has anyone any ideas?

I've seen from the memorex site that they have a firmware update for the drive:

What exactly would this do? Would this help?

    Any help would be great,
    Cheers,

    DC.
