im getting a shuttle soon and i know they have a limited power supply (220 watts)
would it be ok to put a dvd-rw into this along with a p4 2.4 and radeon 9800 pro?
    or is that too much

That should be ok. If you want to make sure you could get the model with the 250w PSU that will handle it no probs. But the main power is going to be used by the CPU and GFX . People have had mixed results with a 9800pro decent CPU and a 200w shuttle PSU......... but all is fine with a 250w model.

Im running an Ideq (biostar) shuttle clone with 220w PSU. Running dvdrw drive, 1 sata hdd, 1 ide hdd, 2500+ cpu and ti4200, all runs perfect.

    Yup. No probs here with 220w Shuttle SN45g, xp2400, 9700pro, 2xHDD and a Pioneer 106 DVD/RW.
If anything, I'm a little concerned at the load I'm putting on it through the USB ports. I wonder could that tip it over the edge? No problems so far though, these Shuttles seem to be bulletproof. Lends a lot of weight to the old PSU argument that few quality watts are better than many cheapo watts. If you know what I mean.

Yea exactly, take fortron for instance there not expensive but a 300w will prob produce more power than a q-tec 550w......... the PSU makers rating means nothing unless its a quality name. Shuttle use pretty decent ones ;)
