English slang  It is pretty lazy though. You only need to hit two more keys to make 'sorry' as opposed to 'soz'.

    I hate that.

Also when people use "canx" instead of cancel. It's so lazy.

    what's wrong with "fuck"?

    Never heard that one.
Don't mind soz so much unless someone says it in real life™. Then it annoys me. It's a British slang thing like Baz = Barry, DAz = Darren. Doesn't make sense, but hey.

I don't like txt tlk either, unless I'm writing a long text. "Soz" is one of those ones that doesn't make me want to shoot someone in the head though. "Ure" does. Only a simian could come up with "ure".

Fook's annoying too. If you're gonna swear, swear right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,397 ✭✭✭✭azezil

I'd tend to use soz if i was apologising for something trivial its like "i'm sorry, lets not make a big deal of it" kinda thing.

What's worse is that ringtone ad in MTV that keeps on repeating "for just six yo-yos". Arghhhhhhhhhhh that's annoying.

I use "soz" in text messages to save on space so I can fit more in, but I don't use it in emails or when I'm talking.

I hate when people write emails using text talk. That gets on my nevers. It sustifiable in texts but not in emails. Have to say it's actually harder to type out an email in text talk than proper language. As your trying it your brain kicks in and makes your fingers move to the right keys even though your trying not too. You end up getting some pretty messy results! :-)

As it is on a phone. Predictive text does not have the likes of soz (which is one of the more ridiculous abbreviations i've heard of...) in it's memory, so you'd have to save a whole other language into it. I know that my phone would soon run out of additional space in its dictionary and start erasing from the start. Pain in the hole if you ask me, i'd rather spend the extra few cent on a second message to save me the hassle and ensure that the person i'm texting knows what i'm on about.

If anything, predictive text has improved my spelling... In that the word I want wont be displayed unless i spell in correctly...

I really hate "fook". Who the Hell decided that that it sounded or looked like fuck? "Book" doesn't rhyme with "buck", "fook" doesn't rhyme with "fuck", they don't sound anything like each other. I really can't stand to read the word.

I hate text speak. It is bad enough the the print in text messages is so damn small on the new phones but when you get mesages like

    tnx 4 da m8 cu l8r

There is no need for it as you could fit loads into 160 letters. then if you have more to say send the message "call me when you get a chance" or ring them yourself

I really hate "fook". Who the Hell decided that that it sounded or looked like ****?

At a guess, people from manchester, or journalists covering bands from manchester. The rise in use of the word 'fook' written down has tended to be in articles covering..er...Oasis. A lot of mags will have guidelines on a swearing quota - in otherwords, you're allowed three bastards, a prick and an arsehole, but no **** and a **** is also out of the question.

However, journos could get around the rules by using approximations based on how the accent sounded...

I hate when people type pr0n instead of porn. It's not abbreviated, just a re-arrangement of letters. Why?????

erm - it's not a word so that if an IT admin person is looking thru the logs of the drones he's meant to monitor and searches for the word porn, it won't show up. dunno why the zero goes in, to be honest

Dunno mate, I'm just good, i guess :D
