    hi,

I have a laptop and a desktop pc. Both have a wireless NIC. Both are properly installed (hardware+software), and there s an icon in the task bar that show that the network is working.

I can ping localhost on each machine.

However, I can not ping one pc from the other, When I go to the Command prompt, I type Net View, only the currently used PC is shown.

The two cards are Belkin card 802.11g, my laptop is an old P2 400 Mhz with 2000 Server and the desktop pc runs XP Pro.)

Can someone please give me a tip :(

Disable any firewalls first, then make sure that they are actually associated, or joined, or whatever terminology your software uses. Can you browse the network computers?

Jeff, have you enabled 'ad hoc' mode (PC->PC mode)? If not, have a quick google for info on how to do it.

IIRC you have to assign an IP address to each in Ad-Hoc mode.

    Yeehee!!

    It s working now!

I have added protocol NetBEUI on both PCs + configured both to WEP encryption (don t know exactly why) + both configured as ad hoc as suggested

    Thanks for your help :)

No problem, glad to be of some help.

WEP just stops any nosy person with a wireless card snooping on you. You can break wep encryption but unless you have a lot of wireless traffic on your network you don't need to be worried!
