VapoChill XE woes..

Finally got all the parts together today and decided to have a bash with putting it together.

Nps with cpu shell (whatever its called). Had a lot of problem remocing gthe back plate from the mobo but after talking to combatcow a blow dryer and plyers got it off (hopefully without damaging it..).

Installed the rest of the stuff followed by PSU, gfx, ram etc etc.

I finally get to the big on button ( was expecting nothing to happen ala last pc but at least it wasnt that bad this time.). I hit it, fans start to whire, Led thingy starts doing its thang, compressor kicks in, bang, dead. Retried and same again.

Now im fairly sure its a problem with the PSU (over current protection) but im not 100%. I have tried moving the 12v connector from the chil control to mobo and it let the compressor go on for an extra half a second before it stops.

What are my options? Get another PSU? or might it be something else compltely? Current PSU is a 480w antec truepower. Woulda thought that it would be enough but it looks like i was wrong.

Any one got any ideas at all plz cos i got none (apart from new psu which id really not prefer to do seeing as this one cost me a fair amount).

    Thanks

    (system specs:
    Vapo Xe
    Antec 480w Trupower
    MSI K8N Neo Plat
    AMd 64 3200 512k (newcastle i believe?)
    1gig of corsair XLS3200XLPT CAS2
Geforce 256 (chuckin in a 9700pro once i get it runnin)
    )

IMHO the truepower PSUs are crap. I blew three 480s in a row in a less exotic setup than yours. Maybe I was unlucky and got three from a bad batch, but I would even buy a Qtec before another truepower. I've been running a 480w Tagan in the exact same setup for nearly six months with no problems...

I know the Prommy stops power to the mobo during a cold start up for a certain period of time.. does the Vapo do the same? Have you tried disconnecting the Vapo (electrically, not physically) and just connecting up the mobo to see if it boots?.

Still cant believe Asetek designed it to draw 12v instead of mains!

Dont fridges use fuckall power? .... they probably thought to make a cost saving by not having a power supply in their unit .... probably cost them more in customer service calls because of dodgy customer power supplies ...but they probably answer all questions with "its your power supply mate"

I dont think so, as the compressor actually starts and then everything (leds on the front go back to saying off) just stops again.

I'd be afraid of just connecting up the mobo incase i fry the feckin cpu.

It does draw it from the mains as well but there is also a 12v connector on the chill control which i can plug in there or if i experience problems can plug straigh into the mobo. Neither way works :(

I dunno but in the manual it does say that at startup it draws a lkot of extra power which some psu's may see as an over current surge and will shut down to protect the mobo and stuff. I think thats whats happening.

Hmm, i have heard good things about the truepower from other people but ill keep an eye on it. The PSU itself seems to be fine as it does keep powering it up after i disconnect the mains power and reconnect).

What i just thought is that it may be the mobo lokin for the cpu fan (which obviously isnt plugged in so ill give that a go).

Right the Vapo tis fixed, a really stupid mistake on my part.

Me in my infinite wisdom forgot to plug in the 2nd 12v cable into the mobo/chill control. Plugged that in to the one that didnt already have one and all was well with the vapo. Starts up and quickly heads down to -26.

Problem im having now is that the mobo wont post but at least im in more familiar waters now :)

I just skipped across the text but, have you established if the Vapo is working properly yet? If you wire pin 3 and 4 ( I think, I will double check once I get home ) of the connectors on the 12 pin ATX plug that you plug into the mobo it should start the Vapo independantly of the rest of machine. If it does start properly then problem lies with the mobo. The best place to ask would be here http://forum.vapochill.com/ the guys there really know thier stuff, best to search the forum first for similar stories with your mobo just so you don't look like a total n00b :)

Arse, took me over 20 minutes to type that up (stupid work :/ ) and you found the solution anyways :D

Oh and so much for not looking like a total n00b :p

Well i think the CPU fan problem takes a while before it shutsdown the PC (on the Abits it waits until just before the windows log on screen) - shocked the hell out of me when i first installed the water cooling, thought deadly its booting first time...... then bang it shuts down, again at the same place, checked all the connections and tried once more - then remembered the stupid CPU fan thing in the BIOS. All sorted.

Good to hear you seem to be someway sorted out, let us know how you get on with the other little problem and how you find it.

Right after pulling my hair out for over an hour i decide to just resit everything and change the ram module to the other 512mb dimm.

I chuck it all in then see from the psu a little wire saying "psu fun". I think to myself, hmm maybe that could go into the hsf connector on the mobo and maybe that will allow it to boot. Anyways i chuck it all together again and the d-bracket leds start doing their thang. It fleis past where it used to stop and brings me to the bios screen. (wootage says me).

All seems to be working now at -23 odd degrees.
Gonna format this hard drive now and install windows on it for other machine. Ill let yas know once i got windows and all up and running on the new machine.

Man nothing beats the feeling you get when you sort out something thats been pissing all over ya for a while :D

    Hope to see yas soon.
