    By Tina-Marie O'Neill

A panel of 20 national and international transport experts has been lined up for the second national transport summit, which will take place on September 14 and 15 in the Berkeley Court hotel, Dublin.

The two-day summit, entitled `En route to sustainable transport solutions for Ireland', will be opened by Minister for Transport Seamus Brennan.

Transport executives from Ireland, the US, Britain, Finland and the European Union will debate the future of road, rail, sea and air transport.

John Hugh Rees, advisor to the European Commission directorate general for energy and transport, will be among the keynote speakers on the first day of the summit.

Iarnrod Eireann managing director Joe Meagher, Dublin Bus sales manager Chris McCormack, and Conor Faughnan, the public affairs manager of AA Ireland, are also among the speakers. A key focus of the summit will be the ``12 economic ills facing the Irish transport industry''.

The second day of the summit will be dedicated to air and sea transport, safety and commuter issues and the future of Irish transport. Keynote speakers include Robert Hilliard, a director of Dublin Airport, who will speak on the need for a second runway at the airport.

William Menczer from the US Department of Transportation will compare Irish and US commuter programmes, and Ibec's Reg McCabe will discuss Irish port trade. Panellists on the second day include Donal Mangan, the former director of the Luas project, and Jimmy Quinn from the Irish Road Haulage Association.

The transport summit will be hosted by The Sunday Business Post and supported by Iarnrod Eireann, Dublin Bus and Bus Eireann.
