Anyone else finding rte 1 and net 2 are displayed in a squashed format on Waterford NTL Digital? All other channels are fine. I've tried all 3 availible picture option - 3:4/3:4 pan and scan/16:9 and its "flattened" in all 3.

    Mike.

Same here in dublin in 16.9 mode they are forced wide on a widescreen television I am not sure if this is NTL or RTE.

RTE appear to be doing some sort of widescreen switching testing over recent weeks. Not sure what they are up to though.

im more concerned about the crappy quality of picture and break up. I have NTL about 4 weeks now and havnt seen 1 program on UKTV gold/+1 and a couple of other channels that hasnt had bad signal break up most of the way through it.

RTE 1 is sending a 16:9 switching signal tonight - but only broadcasting in 4:3.

UKTV Gold is OK for me in Bray, but +1 and G2 are almost unwatchable. So too, for some reason, is Discovery Wings. I should add that this is mostly in the evenings after about 10pm. I do have occasional break-ups on some of the more obscure channels, but the big 8 are perfect most of the time.

Anyone knowledgeable (ntl technical?) care to comment on why just these few channels should be affected? Is it a function of the feed coming from the supplier of the sifnal, or is it in the encoding somewhere?

Exact same problem in Christchurch area. I rang NTL and complained. They sent out a technician (when these channels weren't broadcasting of course). He told me my signal was about as strong as it gets and told me the problem was with my signal splitter which he removed - so I could no longer watch one thing and record another. But then that evening G+1 & G2 started picture breakup again so I replaced the splitter. It's obviously NTL that are broadcasting this cr@p signal. The really stupid thing was that I explained when making the complaint that the problem was with G2. Why didn't the person I was talking to not know there was a problem with G2? How much did it cost to send out the technician? How much of a rise in my NTL bill is this going to result in?
