So I want to go skiing this winter, and I am looking at all the options out there. I want to keep the cost down, but I am not willing to book myself (would much prefer a tour operater/travel agent). With all the countries such as Andorra France Italy etc which would be best suited for the best mix of price/snow/night life ?

I have searched boards for the info but the people that asked the questions never reported back :)

I'd be interested in getting this info also. Have wanted to go skiing/snowboarding for ages now and I should have the cash to go early next year.

    thanks

Andorra- recommended for beginners, cheap.....lots of package holidays etc. Duty Free etc.....

    I prefer France though.

Only been to Austria a few times....fantastic skiing, but I wasn't too enamoured on the nightlife.

I'd go for France. From what I've seen (and I could be wrong about this) the resorts in Andorra and Italy tend to be quite small. I've been to three (Les Arcs, Val Thorens and Les Menuires). Val Thorens is actually part of a bigger resort called Les Trois Vallees and you can buy an extension to your ski pass to get you access to more slopes than you can shake the proverbial stick at. Les Arcs is big enough on it's own, but again it hooks up with a resort called La Plagne and there's even a cable car between the two resorts. I found Les Arcs to be the best, it had an excellent mixture of slopes, really nice attitude on the slopes and pretty decent nightlife.

When I was booking it last year, I think the travel agents were looking for around 7/800 for flights + accomodation for a week at the end of January. Add onto that ski pass (200-250) and gear hire (75-100). I booked it all myself (flew Ryanair etc...) and got everything for around 600 IIRC. So I know you say you don't want to book it yourself, but it is really worth doing. It'll be even better this year cos Aer Lingus now have direct flights to Lyon, which you should be able to get for cheap enough if you book at the right time.

    Hope this helps...
