Hi……..Hope im in the right thread first off…..sorry if im not. If anyone could give me some help and advise on my problem it would be very much appreciated.

Well, I’m female and going into 6th yr and as it’s the summer I need to find a job. Trouble is iv never had to go and look for a job before…my parents just gave me money whenever I needed it…yes I know how lucky I am and not spoilt or anything like that, but I need a job for my own good, I’m bored here at home and would be good to earn money.

I’v looked in my local newspaper for work but that was just full of full-time places and nothing that would suit a student. Do I just go into shops and ask them have they any jobs going, ring them, just hand in a C.V, post it?

In regards to my C.V, I do have one done but under work experience- Iv only worked for2 people- my father (working on farm) and aunt (grocery shop) can I put them down as referees even though they are related to me? Will they ring your referees?

Will I even bother looking for a job-is it to late-will all places be filled?

Thanks for taking the time to read this,
    M.xx

Go around town handing out CV's. Its probably a bit late now as most summer work would have been filled at this stage. Its worth a try though.

As far as i know yes you can. And yes they will ring them (if they are considering you)

Not being smart but, well, you won't find any by NOT looking.

Its like the guy praying every night to god to help him win the lottery, and God eventually says to him..."for petes sake at least buy a ticket"....

You've nothing to lose by looking, and everything to gain. Even if only for the experience of looking. Even if you don't find anything.

um, i was going to post with the intention of giving lots of advice, but its all already been given. so i'll just tell a joke instead.

ummmmmm.... (screws up face; tries to think of joke)

Q: What do Miceal jackson and plastic bags have in common?
A: Its a bad idea to let your kids play with them!!!

    hohohohohoho!

    sorry. wont happen again.

I'm in roughly the same situation as Fast_Mover... but I've got a job (well, if you can call it that - it's only working one night a week, at minimum wage). I'm starting college in September and seriously need to start saving. Right now I'm working Saturday nights only - €60 a night.

The ideal job would be something very short term - maybe a one or two month thing. I was thinking about trying to get some kind of office-temp, or maybe call-centre work, but it's hard to find. Does anybody know of an empoyment agency somewhere in the Galway area that would maybe specilaise in short term jobs, with no specific qualifications (haven't even gotten my leaving cert results yet). There's nothing in my local area, so I'll be heading into Galway city at this rate.

    Any help appreciated.

    try nixers.com

don't know how good it is, a friend used to put up flyers for them around college, that's how I know it :/

Thanks rob1891 - I tried Nixers already, sent an application for SAP (Some kind of software company - telesales job). It seems like most of the online sites don't actually advertise the low paid/skills jobs at all though.

Most jobs are found through people you know, or friends and relations. Have you asked everyone you know?

Id say all the summer jobs are filled now.. my dad is manager of a (large) supermarket and he told me they get about 10 applications a day off students looking for summer work.. and have to throw the majority of them out.. but as Ricardo said try people you know.. every job I ever had was through someone (family/friends/friends of friends/etc)

The best thing you can do this stage is put together a clear easily read CV and cover letter and send as many of them out as possible.

The more CV's you send out the more likely someone is to offer you work.

The success rate of cold calling with CV's is very low. Networking friends, relations is the most succesful method.

    Maybe try temping?
www.nixers.com is usually a good start too.

The money is good,u get office experience but on the downside you mightnt get alot of work either.

    Noticing your background...
These guys would be very helpfull to you, just call into your local branch and explain what you want.
It doesn't have to be farm related, most of their branches deal with every sort of employment.
Thats if you haven't found anything by now.
