    hey just wondering if anyone knows how to get rid of some spyware. i run search and destroy and it doesnt pick it up. it keeps changing my home page to http://81.211.105.68/index.php?v=6&aff=552676 and whenever i google something when i click on some of the results it redirects to a different bullshit search site very annoying. i dont have any searchbars or anything installed so i dunno where i picked it up but has been annoying me for months especially the google thing which makes me shout at the screen alot:)

    Bull**** spyware/browser hijackers like that are the reason why I stopped using internet explorer.

    Download Spybot Search & Destroy from http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download , update it, immunize your system and search for problems.

    Download Hijack This from http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html to get rid of BHOs and search/start page hijacks.

    Oh yeah, and download Opera from http://www.opera.com for a superior, more secure browsing experience.

    download, update & run a scan with adaware and then install firefox as an alternative to IE.
    (it's the windows forum that has a rule against recommending firefox, right?)

    trust me. after a few days with firefox, you won't want to go back to IE. bastids here in college have restricted access to third party software, so i'm forced to use crappy old IE:(

    tman, why? what's the reason?

    are they dumb? don't they understand that ie is crap?

    If I understand it correctly (and I do) it's more an attempt to stop people answering technical queries on a particular product with nothing more than "HEY THAT IS THE SCHNITS TRY DIS INSTED ITS KOOL" while ignoring the question actually asked because it suits them more to ramble on about how company x are rubbish and product y is rubbish than to answer the question they were actually asked.

    ( I suspect both you and Boro would get away with it even over there as long as it didn't generate into an opera v firefox debate)

    @Ogy
    Hijack This (linked by Boro) will probably sort out your problem. Worth downloading Spybot as well though as this probably isn't the only nasty you've picked up. Run, rinse, repeat every few weeks at least.

    It could be the infamous CoolWebSearch trojan/spware app.

    To remove: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/ (This does not work for all versions)

    and to see the disturbingly large number of variants: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html

    not a clue tbh, they blocked everything bar the office suite and ie...
    myself and Asok are thinking of asking them to allow access to firefox. god knows why they'd favour the browser most targeted by spyware/adware/malware over firefox:confused:
