Just saw this on Media Bullet:

    On 11.224 (H):
    52011 will be Rangers TV
    52012 will be Setanta Sport
    52021 will be Celtic TV
52022 will be Setanta Sport Ireland
No launch date is know for these channels yet, but regional block out tests have been taking place since 29 June.

Unfortunately, there is nothing there yet.

Just noticed this morning that Setanta have started broadcasting tests on 52011 and 52021. From 11.00 this morning they were both showing the Ireland - Jamaica football match from last month. If you're into football, it's worth keeping an eye out for replays of matches.

They are actually just repeating the first half!

Thanks Setanta. God forbid you would show anything good for free!

Setanta have still not announced prices for their live Premiership matches this season, as far as I know. They are showing 15 live matches on Saturdays at 3pm (on alternate weeks with RTE). No live fixtures have been announced by them or RTE yet but based on Sky's live list there will be very few (if any) big name clashes on Saturday at 3pm. RTE and Setanta will probably stick with the 'Big Four' against smaller clubs.

Prem+ matches are only on Saturdays this season. K-O's 12.45 and 5.15. Don't order it yet. Last year they dropped the price in early August. They might do it again.

BBC have much more live FA Cup coverage this season. Three live matches per round, I believe.

i am sure setanta said it was PPV in Ireland.

So, what is the purpose having Setanta Sports Ireland if the games are PPV?

I think Setanta know that they will make a higher profit having these games free.
How many fans would pay to watch any team outside the top 4? Not many I say.
So it would make more sense advertisement wise, to have these games available to 800.000 customers base.

It would be like Sky Sports not having the Premiership. The channel would be dead. As will the Setanta Sports Ireland channel.

This is all guess work on my part. What do I know

they had no problem doing it for the SPL

I was under the impression that the free Setanta coverage would only be available via NTL. That's fine if you're in an NTL area but many are not i.e. like me may have Chorus or no cable connection at all. :(

Where does it say, "exclusive to NTL viewers?"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,726 ✭✭✭✭DMC

Lets clear up this once and for all....

NTL customers will be getting Setanta Sport channel, with all the SPL, Barclays Premiership and Celtic League games they are contracted to at no extra cost.

There has been no statement as regards carriage on Sky. But as we can see they are testing, so that means they will get a deal with Sky, but dont expect it to have the same deal as they have with NTL.

Here is a reply from Setenta regarding the new channel they are launching in Ireland.

You be gald to know that a Sky sub with Setenta will set you back around €70-€73 per month.

No mention of what i asked in regards to whether you could buy the premiership matches on a match by match basis.
Thanks for the query. We will be broadcasting the Premiership (15 games) on
our new subscription channel Setanta Sports Ireland which will be launched
    at the end of August.
The channel will also carry the SPL (nearly 60 live games) and the Celtic
League and Cup Rugby competitions, as well as many other sporting events,
    domestic and international.
It will cost somewhere between € 10 and € 13 p.m. but those details are
    still being worked out.
We will publish more information, schedules, carriage, subscription details
on Setanta.com and in the national media when we have them. Please keep an
    eye out.
    With kind regards,
    Niall Cogley
    Setanta Sports

So it looks like free on NTL, and PPV on $ky?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 655 ✭✭✭Macy

No, free on NTL, subscription on Sky.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 513 ✭✭✭JohnDigital

Sorry yea, that is what I meant, monthly sub on $ky :dunno:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 140 ✭✭irishdeej

A lot of items DON'T ADD UP HERE like "Setanta Sports Ireland will be launched
at the end of August." BUT the SPL starts on August 7th & 8th & the Prem a week later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,604 ✭✭✭irishgeo

Thats what i got from Setenta..Interesting that i came from Nialll Cogley and he had addressed it to me and a carbon copy to the email they use for irish things.

I certainley wont be paying for it and unless i get the option to buy each match on a pay per view basis.

Considering its marketing itself as ireland 4th TV channel
they have made a rather sloppy job of it so far.

Surely the BCI will have something to say.

Is it NTL digital or do the mean NTL analogue?

Just saw this report on the BBC website this evening. Looks like things may not be all that rosey at Setanta.

    Setanta deny poor figures
Broadcasters Setanta have denied that their £35m television deal with the Scottish Premier League is in trouble.
Various reports suggest that the Irish pay-per-view company are struggling to meet their break-even target figure of 89,000 subscribers.

"We are definitely happy with the subscription levels to date and we are on course," said a Setanta spokesman.

"To say anything else is outrageous and it's just pure speculation. There is nothing else to write about just now."

Several newspapers report that a limited offer of £99 for a season-long package has only attracted between 10-20,000 people.

"There have been a few sceptical people but Setanta have put a good package in place and some great presenters," continued the spokesman.

"And there is a really strong investment behind it so to say it's about to hit the rocks is completely untrue."

Will those of us with cable TV get this channel for free? I don't pay NTL a penny but I still get the 15 or so basic channels through cable (Don't ask me how, I think the oul lad did something with the cables). Since they say its Irelands 5th television channel I would assume it is available but the 340,000 figure seems pretty low.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,746 ✭✭✭Drag00n79

Yup, Eirebhoy, apparently with a basic NTL package you will receive Setanta Ireland at no extra cost. Live Prem and Live SPL for you. It will be a charge service for those with Sky Digital but no NTL - like me :(

I actually have Sky Digital too and was planning on subscribing to the SPL package. :)

Picked this up on satellites.co.uk BB
    Scottish pubs angry at football

Scottish pub-goers could be crying into their McKewans over a growing dispute concerning the coverage of Scottish Premier League football. This season the SPL has sold the live rights to its matches to Setanta Sports who will be screening the games on its eponymous pay channel. There is already concern that domestic subscribers could fall short of the 89,000 target. Last season SPL games were covered in Scotland by the BBC. Pubs are crying foul over an average 18% increase in charges by Setanta’s commercial distributor Sky. The dispute has a familiar ring to it; innkeepers south of the border have long protested at Sky’s commercial charges. However, Sky insists there is no connection between its charges and the SPL’s move to Setenta, the price increases have been well publicised and Setanta is actually offered as a bonus channel.

Not really interested in Scottish Footie, however, you can hype anything.

However,do you mean Setanta sports is a bonus channel to Sky subscribers like
    Sky Sports 3 is.???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,746 ✭✭✭Drag00n79

However,do you mean Setanta sports is a bonus channel to Sky subscribers like

No, I mean it will cost you as an extra channel would, i.e. like MUTV or FilmFour etc.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,361 ✭✭✭jaggiebunnet

Just got this from Setanta re pricing:
I just spoke with our London office and it would seem that you will just
have to rely on the conversion rate I'm afraid.

It may be something that will be looked at a little further down the
road, but for the moment that's how it stands it would seem.

Well that should lose them just about everyone in Ireland the way the conversion rates are right now.

Sky sent an advertising card to my local about satanta sports. Pubs will recieve satanta sports as a bonus channel from aug 1st, however there could be a catch. it says satanta broadcast an average of 7hrs a week and is a channel for the exclusive coverage of the spl. No mention of the supposed sat. premiership matches. suspect the channel will only come clear for pubs for the duration of the games and the high-lights of the other days matches. His subscription is €190 pm and premiership plus is €280 per match.

    From Today's Sunday Times

Media News Billboard: NTL on attack as Setanta deal raises sporting stakes

THE battle for customers between the cable operator NTL and the satellite giant BSkyB, in which News International, owner of The Sunday Times, has a 35.4% stake, was cranked up a notch last week. NTL’s decision to bump Sky Sports 1 from its slot on its digital service in favour of the new Setanta Sport channel has not gone down well with Sky’s Irish management.
NTL has confirmed that Setanta, the Irish broadcaster, will be available to all its 340,000 subscribers from Saturday. On the basic service it will replace Nickelodeon but its 79,000 digital subscribers will find the station on channel 401 — currently the home of Sky’s premier sports channel. Sky Sports 1 will move to channel 402, with its sister channels also moving one place along the dial. This leaves Setanta in pole position on the remote control for trigger-happy couch potatoes.

On the face of it the deal between NTL and Setanta is a good one for both parties. The cable company gets an Irish sports channel and Setanta leapfrogs TV3 as the second force in the Irish broadcasting market. Setanta will broadcast 16 live Premiership games next season and has exclusive rights to Scottish Premierleague matches. Sky’s 318,000 digital subscribers, however, will have to shell out about €10 more a month if they want to tune to Setanta. Strike one to NTL.

Premership (From Memory): Villa Vs Southampton 14th

I was under the impression RTÉ are going to show a live prem match on 14th. Setanta showing one on 21st and 28th.

That's what was on the Setanta Sports output on NTL Analogue last night... It may be a mistake on their behalf...I was a bit surprised that RTE hadn't at least on match early on, considering the Rugby in the new year......

HOLD ON...Brain wave..... What about the Olympics.... RTE will be covering that!! :D

The disease that has cursed this septic little island for an eternity. Overpriced and of desperate quality.

Just noticed on the setanta sports website that it will cost a sky subscriber 13 euro a month for the pleasure of watching the WORST premiership coverage in europe.

I don't make this claim lightly. the WORST premiership coverage in europe. and..... they won't advertise what games are on in September.

Net 2 are showing Bolton v Man U on Saturday, and at least we can be assured of a 'semi-professional' programme. The Setanta coverage has been abysmal to date, the look and feel of the entire channel is reminiscent of the old 'Fast Show' parody of Spanish TV...'Scorchio' indeed.
