I'm the IS Manager here at a firm in London.

And I've just replied to a 'leaving email' with some degree of silliness, of course I did a reply to all and everybody in the org has it now.

Not as bad as it could have been.

    I'm taking solice in that.

    Here's the text.

You popped up on my wee list of 'leavers' last week alright.

Sorry to see ye go, but I can only assume its for pastures much more greener.

    Drinks will be had.

Does this mean you will not be accepting anymore spam, or virus emails?

    Regards

    Paul

I'm cringing in my office here, but I'm just going to pretend it was deliberate.

Any other scare stories to help me out of this hole?

ohh i can better that one by a mile...

A girl in our office got a promotion in the sales dept and her boss sent out an email
telling everyone in the company about the promotion and congradulating her.

I went to forward the mail onto her with the extra addition:

"ahh congrats (girls name) on your new promotion :)
Hope they are paying you more money for all the extra sh*te you are going to be
    dealing with"

Except I clicked reply and sent it back to her boss instead..

The first I knew about it was when I got an email back from him saying:

    "EXCUSE ME!!!!"

    and nothing more..

Now thats something to cringe about.. :(

Have you never been out for an office piss-up? Don't you and your colleagues ever have a good aul laugh? Get over it FFS.

If anyone asks tell them you were drunk, then pull a nagin of JD and about 5 shot glasses out of your drawer and ask them if they fancy a tipple. Its only work-time after all.

I've seen people accidentally announce they were leaving their company on a public mailing list that their boss/associates reads - before they told him/them. Now that something to cringe about.

It is done now nothing that you can do about it- if you send a mail saying blah blahblah i didn't blah blah mean it sorry- they willl think even less of you then they already do.

Just leave it and stick to your guns :)

yeah I've had a two bad ones that I can remember.

One was where I f*cked up, emailed the customer blaming the vendor and gave out about how crap they were.
only things was I sent it to the manager of the vendor and he wasn't impressed.

another one where I forwarded a stupid customer's email to a work collegue saying
"what is this twat on about?"

but I clicked "reply" instead of "forward"

    OUCH!

And you're the IS Manager ? Jesus. I'd be worried for my security if my IS Manager didn't know difference between the 'Reply' and 'Reply All' button.

my god thats nothing! Ive done it twice in my job,
once we got an email from IT to say that they were auditing our equipment and I meant to forwarding it onto my collegue stating..."better check out all the PC's for illegal software so" and sent it back to the IT dept.

then I also recently said to our IT guy to put a something on my bosses PC but sent the following to my boss rather than IT:

at some stage when you get a minute can you install "X" for "X"?
"x" is doing my head in :D
If "x" says "we" must remember to do....
outloud again I think I might just commit murder.
    So save a life.
I think if "x" has it "x" wont have to say everything out loud, or so is my theory

Boss just came in to me and said "nice theory" and smiled.
    Phew.

In the company I work for someone sent out an email to an internal distribution list with the title:

    You are Gay

10 minutes later there was an apology email from that guy to about 30,000 people on the list expalining how it was really meant for a client and that there is no reason to take offence.

I would love to have been there when he realised what he had done :D

Yeah - I once sent a text slaggin off my bird to my brother - only I sent it to her phone by mistake - and she was sitting RIGHT beside me when I sent it - no escaping that.

OUCH - no sex for about a week (well, 5 minutes).
