Third party Laptop AC Adapters?

I'm looking to get a second AC adapter for my Sony Vaio R600 (current adapter is 19.5V 4.1A). Now I have found one that is close - 19V 4.74A. Would this do? Am I correct in thinking that the ampage doesn't matter as long as it is at least as high or higher than the current one? Is 19V close enough to 19.5V?

There is no problem taking the adapter back if it doesn't work, I'm just concerned as to whether it could do (gradual/long-term) damage.

The vendor reckons that it will work. The original Sony adapter is just too expensive.

    Thanks for any advice.
