I was doing a plc course and finished up in june, i've also have started going to a shrink and how a long history with social anxiety/depression and the whole shrink thing is making me more depressed and anxious but i hope its a temporary problem. Anyhow in alot of ways i need a job for the mere fact of money and to keep my mind occupied but i can't seem to bring myseklf to look around for jobs because the anxiety i feel about going into places and interaction with people on this level and interaction once i get a job terrifiys me :( i know it's illogical and stupid but i can't seem to get over this hurdle. Any advice on how i can get over this or control it ?

    Hey you're just like me!

Go to a GP, tell him about the anxiety. Get a perscription for a month at MOST of some anti anxiety meds. This gives you a chance to go into a job, interract, and establish yourself before the meds run out. It's not the best solution but it worked for me (so far!!).

You'll feel better being occupied once you get going too. Avoid alcohol, nicotine, caffeine and especially cannabis for a few months too. It's not much fun but again it worked for me (you can have a few pints, smokes, cokes or spliffs every now and then on a big night out or a special occasion). Lack of sleep is also a killer for this, will make you VERY paranoid / freaked out.

Good luck dude. We're in the same boat on this one.

You need to do something 'safe' that will exceeded your current threashold, where you can go somewhere you don't feel safe (psychologically), but that there is someone there to support you.

Can any friends / family offer you even part-time work?

not that i disagree but why avoid these completely? obviously there's no point looking for a job drunk (or like Spud in Trainspotting) but socially i would have thought that some of the above would help.

Maybe you should discuss this with your therapist? This is stuff they can help you with.

Because they can make you very edgy. This is recommended by the doctor and works in my experience. Not quit them for life or anything, but cut back. A nice spliff is relaxing, but if you're anxious it can make you uber paranoid, and very sketchy the next day, especially if you have things to do. Smokes are fine tbh, caffeine after 6 in the evening is best avoided too, it can keep you up and make you nervy.

But like i said, socially on a big night out tis fine. If you're surrounded by people you know and feel calm where you are then go for it, but you have to be sure you've nothing important to do later on.

Personally I've always found a good dose of LSD straightens me out when I anxious.

Alcohol and cannabis are both depressents, not suitable for someone suffering anxiety.

Have u thought about joining a group. Their are a few groups around were people with S.A/depression meet usually once a week to discuss and help each other overcome their problems.

Do a google search for : Aware, Grow, Recovery, oanda.
