Cinematic Masterpiece?

Forget civil rights and the Vietnam war- in the late 1960's the only issue of any importance was whether the Monkee's feature-length movie Head was a cinematic masterpiece or the absolute nadir of their lightweight career. After a heated and protracted 26-year debate, the popular opinion now is that it was the former and, if proof were needed Strictly Kev from Ninja Tunes production outfit DJ Food will be turning in a live performance of a multi layered score.

An astonishing 90-minute three-deck real-time rampage through 60’s psychedelia, electronica, easy listening, krautrock, spoken word, soundtracks, humour, military bands and other crazy tunes, he shows exactly how it should be done in terms of balance, timing and sheer accuracy of deck craftsmanship.

Co-produced by Jack Nicholson, the film described as a Hard Day's Night on acid was originally given the rescore treatment at Budapest's Cinetrip club in 2001, and only received it's first UK performance in March this year.

Hmmm....Lemme get this straight. Dubious drug-addled cinematic outing for sixties boy-band judged to be a 'cinematic masterpiece' because Strictly Kev will be performing a few choons from it...

Could you tell him to stay the frig away from the score to Batman and Robin, as that movie was a ball of s***e and I'm not having it re-appraised just cos Strictly Kev is gonna give Danny Elfman the once over...

lighten up will ya? We both know it's not a cinematic masterpiece in the true sense of the word. It is however very surreal and rather funny, particularly with the new treatment.

PS. He's not performing a few tunes to it. None of the original soundtrack or dialogue remains. He has chosen new music, dialogue and sound effects for the entire film, taking it to a new level of surrealism and absurdity.
