    Hey there,

Thinking of selling my self-built system of March 2004. All components, other than monitor (summer 2003) bought new then. Any idea on price I should look for? What would be the max I could expect?

    Mobo: MSI K8T Neo-FISR (onboard 6-channel Realtek audio, LAN, 8xUSB2.0, onboard SATA/RAID)
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (w/stock heatsink and fan)
RAM: 2x512 Mushkin Level 1 Enhanced Latency 2-3-2-6
    HD: Seagate 80gb S-ATA
    Video: ATI Radeon 9800Pro 128mb
    Floppy: Standard 1.44 black
    CDR/DVD: Lite-On Combo Drive 52x32x52x16
    Modem: 56k
Case: Q-Tec Minitower w/side window (front USB ports + speaker sockets), 3 neon case fans, 1 cathode tube
    PSU: Enermax 465 460w
    Speakers: Altec Lansing 2.1
    Mouse: Logitech optical wheel mouse
    Keyboard: Logitech deluxe keyboard
    Monitor: Lg 17" monitor
    OS: Windows XP home

3DMark2003 score: between 6,000 and 6,100 without overclocking

The case looks pretty cool (to impress would-be-buyers) being silver with black media drives, and nice blue neon lights.

    Thanks :)

    Wild guess...€600-€700.

Assuming that it's an OEM version of Windows and that it's a CRT monitor. Probably worth a bit more though.

To buy all that stuff and build it yourself would probably set you back the best part of €1000. So €700-800 would sound about right if you were to part with it as a 2nd hand machine.

Does it include the licence for XP home? I'd add another hundred quid for that if it does. Less if its an OEM one.

Thanks for the replies. To buy all listed components in Ireland/Jes.de would cost quite a bit more than 1000 I think. About 1200+, not including the XP Home. I bought the more expensive items in the States but still cost me over 1000. Obviously IT depreciation and the fact that it is second hand would really reduce the amount I will get.
Am thinking of building a newer PC based on the new AMD 64 cpus and new socket mobos, maybe with a X800 graphics card.

Your talkin more than that figure anyway. Id be guessing €900............

[edit] With ref to the other values.

    Rules of thumb

    a) Design life of most components is 5 years so Drop 20% per year
    b) for Silicon/Storage (HDD/CD/CPU/RAM etc.) the speed/capacity doubles every 18 months or so. So drop 50% every 18 months.

Most components would be subject to both rules...

    or
    c) compare to the current new cost of similar system (MHz/MB) and drop 20% per year of age (if no new system of similar spec then use rule (b)

    d) Buy n' sell - compare to prices there for systems that aren't still on sale every week
