Spigarelli 2001 VBS (black), low wood handle
    W&W WinACT 70inch limbs, 32lbs, pulling 41lbs
Cartel Triple 400 Outdoors, 45mm Kurly Vanes
    Easton X7 2214 Indoors, 75mm Kurly Vanes
41 inch Beiter Devil Centraliser Longrod, cap
    Spigarelli Carbon 30 Sight
    Cartel 18 Strand FF String
Cartel Damper used as small top rod
Cavalier Elite finger tab(new model) with finger spacer
Dental floss / superglue nocking point
Bracing height just under 9inches (low for a 70inch but works for me)
Draw length is somewhere around 30.75inches
    Beiter Bright Orange arm guard
    Cavalier Finger sling
    No side rods
Spigarelli click adjust pressure button(the old model, the one where you screw the little red thing into it to adjust spring pressure)
    Spigarelli Extension clicker
Built in Spigeralli Magnetic arrow rest
    Altservices quiver
    And thats about it.

Speaking of equipment, anyone on here on the market for a pair of well used WinACT limbs? Still straight and shootin well, bit worn looking tho...

    Samick SHB 40# one-piece recurve
Hand-made 11/32" wooden arrows with 4" feather fletches

    Easton ACCs 3L-04 I think - cut to 26.5"
Also Easton Platinum Plus but don't use them regularly - mostly damaged.
Carbofast quad long bar, short bars and v-bar

    Dermot:

    1. Keep an even push and pull.

    2. Pull the bow, get the shoulderblades settled, then sit your head on your hand.

This should help maintain a reasonably consistent draw... as a junior i was plagued by clicker problems, i started using one in 99, got so disgusted with it i didnt use one again until 2001... shot my first intervarsity with no clicker...my indoor personal best was shot without a clicker, but overall I think they are worth it...

Of course were archery nerds! Archery has to be one of the nerdiest sports out there... it always has a way of attracting "individuals" :)

the xq1s r nice, but my shoulder is only coming good now so haven,t shot them enough to say i love them... they're quick.
have to tune them a bit better to get the vibration a bit lower, but on first impressions i like em.

  • Registered Users Posts: 743 ✭✭✭Renegade_Archer

  • Registered Users Posts: 329 ✭✭mr potato head

Hehehe... You're not exactly expected to be using terribly fancy equipment. Tis kinda anti your style! :p

And in all fairness I'd never call Hoyt poor mans equipment! :)

Hoyt GM's used to be state of the art. Mine still works so I'll stick with it. I would have to negotiate release of funds from the joint account to get anything new so, until I break it or it gets stolen.....

    The kit:

    Hoyt GM (original laquered version)
    GM limbs 68", 38lb @ 28"
    Spig Carbo 30 sight
    Spig pressure button
    Beiter clicker
    Beiter centraliser & diagonals
    A/C/Cs

    and for fun

    Conquest 55lb longbow
POC arrows with bullet points & 4" fletchings

Yeah has to be said the GM was a good riser, shot my indoor PB with one, and shot both Junior EuroNations with one as well. Good bow. Only fault I had with it was the lack of holes made it a bit of a pig in windy weather :)

How can you all use such obsolete equipment?

    50lb Eagle Aquila English longbow
    14-strand B50 string

    28"x11/32" Port Orford Cedar shafts
    Arizona Z-nocks
    4" turkey feather shield fletches
    120-grain steel bodkin points.

    Lace-up 8" leather bracer
    Deerskin 3-finger glove
Flax arrow bag (holds 24 shafts)

Now THAT's state of the art. In 1356 :)

    Oh yes, it IS fun!

But the French don't think so, I wonder why :-)

Is that one of the four-laminate Conquest bows? They're beautiful.

I've always wondered what the attraction of longbow was. Is it an Battle of Aigincourt screw-the-French historical thing or perhaps a masochistic pulling 55lb and deforming your spine and cutting your face kinda thing. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against them or anything, I just never saw the attraction. I'm a recurve archer by the way and while I'm at it I may as well update my equipment spec:

25" Hoyt GM (one of the the older ones, not the TD4 I think)
40lb Hoyt Vector limbs (wound down to 38lb or so)
    Cartel Junior sight
    Shibuya DX button
    Spig magnetic rest
    Beiter clicker with extension
14 strand flourescent green Dyneema '02
BCY Halo serving (end loops and centre)
Win&Win Fomax2 longrod, extender and matching twins
    Cartel Vbar
A&F finger tab with plastic shelf
    Leather finger sling
    Easton A/C/C 3L-18s 27.75"
Beiter no1 nocks for unibushing and nocking point

  • Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 28,792 Mod ✭✭✭✭oscarBravo

I don't shoot longbow (traditional recurve m'self) but there's something immensely satisfying about being able to hit a target with nothing more sophisticated to guide your aim than subconscious technique.

    Sure-Loc Quest-X Sight (Sliver)
42' Beiter Long Rod and 12' Side Rods Green/Black
