This is bassed on Loki's Low Budget Pc from the Hw/Teak Modding form.

Few Questions are all the parts good to go with each other?

    1. Will I be able to safely Overclock the 2500+ ?
    2. Is it hl2 / d3 playable :) ?
    3. Is the Monitor good enough for the System.. (It was the Cheepest one I found, Id like to keep it that way )
    4. In order to put it all together what case should I get (Cheaper all the better for me) and what other gadgets will I need, first time building PC

Oh and as regards to jes.computers, are they the best prices and how does the 'Pay in advanced' methode work?

    Thanks for your time,
    -Coz.

    Hl2 will definately be playable.

One piece of advice, get the best cooler thats resonably priced. You'll need to to get the max overclock from your processor. I'm limited by my cooler :(

pay in advance means you get the IBAN number and Swift code from the jes site, and you do a bank transfer to their account to pay. It costs 75 cent. Its the best option. The bank will know what to do.

I'm also interested in how the 'Pay in Advance' option on jes.de works...

Looks like a fairly nice PC too..

    Nice one thanks MFruit..

What kind of cooler would you recommend?

If you can stretch to another 25 euro for the processor you should go with the 2500 mobile xp. Jes have them for 95 euro. They emit less than half the heat of the normal 2500 and less power meaning they overclock a lot better than the normal 2500.

The best air cooling you can get is the thermalright sp-98. I think thats the amd version of it. the sp-94 is the intel version. Stick a 92mm fan on that and artic silver 5 as your thermal compund and you'll get a great overclock.

Hopefully you get an r360 core 9800. That way you can flash it to a 9800xt.

70khz is pretty low but it is cheap. You could get a second hand 19" maybe for the same price or a better 17".

Well the system is put toghter for overclocking to Xp3200+ (2.2ghz) or close to that mark.

With an FSB of 200mhz , the Ram is running at Pc3200 , CPU @ 2.2ghz (XP3200+) and its a nice easy overclock. Putting a better cooler might get you more from the CPU but due to it being locked you will have to have faster memory to go further.

The mobile Xp2500+ is a great overclocker, add a good cooler and its going for 2.4-2.6ghz. Only problem is its increased costs both on the cooler and CPU.

That system has a 9800pro which is going to be a big issue in your gaming, with an overclock of close to 2.2ghz HL2 should play pretty nicely on that rig.

[edit] For €5 more go for the 160gb SATA edition of the samsung? .

Um loki all of the above just went way over my head... is the ram I got, not Pc400?

what is ment by the Cpu being locked? do I have to do a physical mod to the cjip to overclock it? and why the faster ram again?

    Thanks,
    -Coz.

P.s No thanks Squirle. Prefere to put something together myself.

    lol , ok !!
is the ram I got, not Pc400?

    Its DDR400 ........ also known as Pc3200. Runs at 200mhz x 2 = 400mhz .
what is ment by the Cpu being locked?

There are two aspects when overclocking a CPU which make up the overall speed. The Multiplier and the FSB. Multiplier X FSB = CPU Speed. (ive started a overclocking sticky and its explained better there).

The Multiplier on the new AMD's are locked. This means that you increase the other factor (FSB) to increase CPU speed. The thing about it is that FSB is also setting how fast the Ram will run, thus if you have slower Ram it will stop High FSB and limit your overclock.
do I have to do a physical mod to the cjip to overclock it?

Nope its very easy. Just upping the FSB in 5mhz increments until it gets unstable, add a little more voltage as nessary and watch temps. Nothing at all complicated ;)
and why the faster ram again?

    As per above post.

Cant see if anyone else has pointed this out but :

Get 2 x 256 Twinmos PC400 ram. 2 sticks is better than one generally.

Edit : As regards D3/HL2 I have a very similar spec pc that will happily play FAR CRY which is the current System Abuse champion.

I would seriously consider an A64 based PC unless you're a really tight budget. Its about €200 more tho :(

Will that ram be fast enough then to do what ever overclocking is needed?

If i stay with getting the amd 2500+ instead of getting the adm 64, will I be cutting alot of lifetime of the PC?

Should I wait till the 64 come down and then get it?

    The AMD64 3000+ performs roughly 10% better that an Xp3200+ .

The AMD64 are great for gaming but your talkin €150 more, depends on your budget really.
The Socket939 is just out and this will be the AMD flagship socket so the Socket754 will become a more budget option of the two. With all the changes comming out there are arguments for and against everything. Let your budget decide and also how badly you need an upgrade.

The Xp2500+ system with 9800pro should see you playing the newest games pretty well and is a good system to tide you over until all the DDR2, BTX, PCI-E etc is on the market.

The Pc3200 Ram is perfect for your overclock.
Get 2 x 256 Twinmos PC400 ram. 2 sticks is better than one generally.

Makes such a small difference performance wise on the XP range (2-5%) i generally recomend 1 stick. Especially if your mabye thinkin of upgrading to something else later on, the 512mb stick is much more usefull (ie in the AMD64 where it has probs running 3 dimms so your ram limit is 1gb as apposed to 512mb).

Might I suggest the Antec Sonata Case. A good looking case that comes with a 380W PSU and case fan. Also contains both sata and ide cables for your choice of hard drive. You might also consider buying the case in Ireland as it doesn't differ in price too much across europe but shipping might bring up the overall price of your order if bought outside Ireland, ie JES in Germany.

    Thanks loads everyone,

    2 LAST questions i swear :)

how long should that system be capable of playing games?
Will I be running int trouble with games a year down the line?

    and lastly

Should putting this system together prove much of a problem?

    Many thanks again,
    -Coz.

Probably around 2-3 i reckon, although you will be dropping resolutions and switching off effects during that time.
