I want to build a media centre pc for my leaving room. It has to have the following requirements

have a digital decoder - as in a tv digital decoder
be able to function as a PVR
be able to function as a MP3 jukebox
    have a remote control
be able to watch and copy DVDs
    connect wirelessly to my network
    be as quiet as possible
does not have to be a small form factor

I have a few ideas about what parts im going to get but I'd like to know what other poeple think?

yea go for it! I built one from scrap parts i had around, only had to buy a tv card.

    MIne is as follows

    1800+ athlon xp
    256mb ddr ram
    40gb hdd
+100gb on server for permanent storage
    zalman silent flower heatsink
    dvd rom
    xp pro
ang im using myhtpc as a frontend, there are infinite plugins for this thing.

As for the remote id buy an aver tv card because there are plugins for girder and bremote and averrc were written specificly for them. If u dont mins soldering u can even make it work with winlirc.

Im not sure exactly what u mean about your tv requirements if u can be more specific i will help you.

Ive had mine up and running for a few months now and so far no problems. Hope tis helps ya for now, as i said let me know what u mean about tv decoder and ill help more

basically i get ntl digital I want to plug the digital TV into the pc so i can have a PVR system. its the key part to the whole system. without it theres no point building it. oh and it has to be digital

There are no cards that can decode the NTL signal directly, You will need to connect your st to the tv cards composite in or s-video in. This is how i am doing it with my sky diital (s-video), and the results are quite good. U will only get the basic channels bbc rte c4 utv etc if u want to connect the ntl signal straiht to the tv card

I knew it was a bit of a long shot to have that sort of set up but without that kind of function the chances of my dad givin me the money for the parts is slim. He/I really wanted a PVR system. Thanks anyway for the advice

u can still get a pvr system, just uy a normal tv card connect ur stb into it and u have a simple pvr, or u could get a second ntl box from buyandsell and conncet that into the tv card seperately that way u could watch 1 digital channel and record another. Hope this helps u.

Im using a dvb card btw for the fta sky channels and connect the digibox into it aswell for the sub channels
