Tell me I don't need a new hard drive

Well after a unexpected power surge/cut (plug was pulled slightly out of the wall while the comp was on, causing it to shut off for about 1 sec) I am now getting nice BSOD messages at startup when it is about to load Norton AV client, and occasionally when opening a windows explorer box or trying to browse the filesystem I get:

    Exception 0e at 0028:c156<4 digit vary a bit> in VxD ----
    called by 0028:c182e740 in VxD voltrack(04) + 00000000

    I'm guessing either:
1: New PSU or 2: New hard drive

Microsoft blather on about voltrack but only mention it in relation to removable drives of the USB/Zip variety (of which I have none).

I'd prefer not to have to buy a new PSU OR hardrive but if anybody has any better ideas I'd love to hear them.

could well be filesystem errors, not necessarily hardware failure.

you're gonna have fun finding out though.

could try calling microsoft and giving them the errors and see if they know what the craic is.

or boot into safe mode and uninstall norton, and see if that helps.

have you tried reintalling the OS. and what OS are you using anyway. If its not win Xp that would explain th BSOD cause all the other OSes tend to get screwed up very easily
