Anyone of you guys tried the Vodka Watermelon trick ??

Take one Watermelon & cut a hole in the side, just big enough to pour through. Take one bottle of cold Vodka & pour into the hole. The melon will soon fill up to the opening, so sit the melon in the fridge overnight & keep topping up until the bottle is empty - leave one more day. The whole thing takes about three days.

Cut the melon into slices & its absorbed all of the vodka.....great for parties on a hot day

This is one thing you can't rush. We tried it in Spain, and after about 1 1/2 days, and half a bottle of vodka, but it up and ate it. Some parts tasted like watermelon, other parts tasted like solid vodka. Twas mingin.

Nah - gotta take this slowly - it will last in the fridge un-opened for about 4 days (probably because the vodka has preserved it - lol )

You need a good three days fo rit to fill & another for it to fully soak in - you could start it a full week before a bbq. As Seamus says, try it too early & it can be nasty - either pure vodka or pure melon...

The final result should taste like a shot of vodka with a melon type liqueur in it - it great when given the time...& I wonld'nt recommend eating a whole one - lol - unless you've no work for a few days :))

Its great when it is done right, But people get very confused when they find out that they are tipsy after two beers and a few slices of watermelon.

Another great one, which takes a similar amount of time to prepare unfortunatly, is vodka jelly + fresh orange juice set in orange halves:

Get a few oranges, cut them in half and clean out the edible bit with a spoon. Extract the juice and mix with vodka and jelly powder. Now you really need to stir that well, because the vodka will be cold (heating up vodka gets rid of the alcohol) so the jelly crystals won't disolve as easily. Pour the unset jelly into the cleaned out orange halves and leave to set in the fridge for about a day and a half.

The result: Kablammo! a fun and tasty way to get drunk at parties!

That's gotta be worth a try briano...just make sure there are no kids near the fridge !!!

The Vodka Watermelon was great one for getting booze into a no alcohol college party....

I had that EXACT experience, except in the Canaries (well it is part of Spain i guess).

Perhaps if a rotating machine was emplyed to continuously rotate the melon over a day or two to achieve a more homogenous result.
