Linux From Scratch

In the middle of build myself a "Linux From Scratch" system (www.linuxfromscratch.org). Over all it is very interesting. You get a great sense of owner ship over your system, instead of the constant what-the-feck-did-Redhat/Mandrake/Suse-do-there feeling you get when you install a distribution

just wondering has anyone else attempted a LFS installation, and what did they feel about it. Did everything work or was the system un-usable

Also what did you use for Package Management. I am using GNU Stow, installing everying in its own directory and sym linking (eg /usr/stow/glib-2/lib linked to /usr/lib etc). Anyone have a better way??

just printed off their manual, might give this a crack at some stage over the summer, it'd probably teach me a lot.

No LFS experience to offer, but I'm curious - how do you handle dependencies under LFS and/or Stow? Is it a manual process? I have to admit I'm totally spoiled by apt when it comes to package management.

A good few people install the slackware package management tools - im sure you'd be able to use swaret for dependencies.

Is there any chance that emerge could work instead of slackware's stuff? - of course if it doesn't I suppose slackware's dep mange is very good so I could use that instead. How long did it/is it take(ing) you? A couple of days if you compile everything I suppose?
