I have annoying web pages popping up every time i turn on the computer on the internet they come on all the time and are not linked to to webgroup or wepage page i am surfing bassically they are not advertising page that comes up when i log on to a webpage. Some time the same one comes up again and again. This is a little frightening it like im not in control of my computer.

I was a little frightened they could put a virsus on my computer. I dont think i am connected to a porn dialer because my bill is around 100 euros that includes all phone calls from the house and internet useage on iol free for about 2 hours a day after 6 for a month. i never click on the advertisment that comes up because after reading it it reveals it calls a high premium number how do you get rid of these annoying webpages and make sure there is no hidden bugs on your computer.
I thank anyone who can help me

goto http://security.kolla.de and download spybot search and destroy. Also www.lavasoftusa.com and download adaware6.0. The above tools should find the relevant pieces of spyware cuasing the problems.

Also. Try using Mozilla Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. It uses the same parsing engine so websites will display more or less the same in either browser, but where IE has a new security hole every week, Firefox doesn't. o_O You can't get virii from webpages like you can with IE (just by visiting them), plus it blocks pop-ups.

I've installed it on a lot of PCs now: it's invariably been faster than IE. Methinks you're doing something wrong.

Oh. I thought I read somewhere it used the same engine as IE and that's why it can display pretty much everything the same as IE.

    Nevermind then.

edit: Must say I find firefox slower to load than IE and at the start I wasn't to bothered about tabbed browsing but it's really grown on me at this stage, don't think I could go back.

thats why I use Avant browser. its an add on to IE, so you get the faster speed loading up plus all sites on the net display correctly, plus tabs, and a nice simple way of disabling java applets, active X and flash animations on webpages. Comes in handy when I'm off to sites like itv-f1.com which is full of crap

Nope - it uses Mozilla's Gecko engine. Things display pretty much the same - in well-designed websites - because designers are starting to code to standards, instead of to IE's broken implementations. Sites (badly) designed for IE can still look strange in Firefox, but that's not Firefox's fault.

Too late - you already pushed my pedantry button! ;)

I had noticed that with Firefox 0.8, but 0.9.1 seems well snappy.
