What's up with the EPG on NTL Dublin?

Recently I've started noticing that the EPG appears to have reduced itself to one day only, i.e. the current day, plus the first program of the next day. What happened to our 3-day EPG?

Also I'm getting frequent hangs of the EPG information shown in browse mode, but only for certain channels. To fix it I have to go the EPG itself, select those channels and wait for it to redownload the information, and then go back to browse mode for it to work.

It's the new style silver box by the way with 5.37 f/w. I've tried a few resets (power off/on) but nothing gives.

Indeed they should call it a one-day epg, I've got a black pace box, not sure of number though.

    Thank God for Digiguide:)

Yep, I've only a one day (and a bit) EPG. This sucks as it means that I can't add reminders to most of the programmes that I want to. :(

    I miss my Sky+... Damn apartments... :(

Yeah that's a common *feature* of ntl digital EPG!!! Generally worse on the black Pace boxes. It's something to do with a 5am reboot (if you're up at 5am every day - I am sometimes - the decoder reboots itself) and does something screwy to the software. I find that if you leave the decoder on at night, the following morning, the described will occur. So either switch off your box to combat the 5am reboot, or reboot the box every morning.

This *generally* fixes *most* problems :D

I haven't had any problems with the 3 day EPG on the grey (Pace DI4001NC) box, mind you I do have is plugged out most nights.

Leave it plugged in for 24 hours a day, for about 5 days and you'll know all about it

I've just rebooted my box, and lo and behold, my 3-day EPG is back! Thanx!

Sooooo, do I actually have to unplug the thing at night to avoid the 5am reboot, or can I just switch it off with the remote, or the button on the front?

I'd love to get my hands on the source code to this pile of cr@p :)

The reboot seems to take place regardless of whether the box is decoding or is in standby. You can continue to leave the box in standby at night (in case they decide to load better software - fat chance) but I'd advise you, every morning when you get up, just plug out the box for a few seconds and then plug it back in so you have your 3 day EPG for an entire DAY!!!

(You'll have to do this EVERY morning)

I've seen mention on Usenet of a key sequence for the older style boxes to perform a reboot without having to fiddle about pulling the plug, a sort of Ctrl-Alt-Del equivalent as it were, except it was Left, OK and TV or something like that.

I don't suppose theres an equivalent for the silver Di300 boxes?

I'm sure there is some kind of key but it would be easier and more practicle (and probably more reliable) to just pull out the plug. It doesn't take that much effort ???

WARNING: You should ONLY EVER disconnect the box from the mains by removing the plug NOT the two pin connection at the rear of the box. This is dangerous, both to your safety and the box. Only use the wall plug

Actually, it's a PITA to get around to the back of the TV to get to the plug. It's a 28" widescreen Philips on a big heavy stand in a corner of the room. I've been reaching around the back of the box and pulling the connector out ... can't see much that can go wrong there? How can that harm the box?

Well, it causes arcing in the connectors of the box, (you can often here crackling sounds when you do this) so there is a possibility of fire from the sparks (eg. build up of dust, or sparks escaping onto flammable materials)
