Sound Card Question

I'm currently awaiting the arrival of my new Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS to add to my machine. I saw a review of it on www.guru3d.com the review was good but not totally outstanding saying it was the best opetion on the market sound card wise but sound quailty while good was not outstanding. But I was more interested to note the benchmarks scores in various games. The FPS of every game they tested was better than any other sound card. In Unreal Tournamnet 2004 demo it was a considerable 16fps. Since I running on onboard sound will I see a good improvement in frame rate or will it be a minor thing?. Got me wondering just how much does a sound card improve FPS?

    Anyone got any rough idea's?

Sounds like your getting confused, FPS (Frames per second) refers to your graphics card. e.g. How many frames you GPU can output @ any given time.

Your refering to the SB ZS, its a very good card, if your using onboard then you will notice a big difference.

    Thanks joePC

I'm not confussed mate. It does not seem to make much sense unless onboard sound ties up the cpu quite abit. But seriously check out www.guru3d.com and scroll to near bottom of main page they have a review there. Check out the benchmarking scores ....its a test for FPS in various games no mistake

Azza you are correct about the fps in games. Sound cards will cause a small drop in fps due to the hardware involved if using the more advanced sound options like surrond sound etc.

The Audigy 2 ZS is a damm good card and while nothing major over a standard Audigy 2 feature wise apart from being 7.1 compatable it does cause less of a drop in fps than any other soundcard on the market.

Dunno if you will notice a major improvement in fps, but you will notice an improvement in sound quality :D
