Considering the board you posted it on Im assuming you mean rock/metal bands, ie: today we still listen to Led Zepp, Sabbath etc.

In 20 odd years time I can see bands like Deep Purple and BLack Sabbath still being played, but you honestly cant say really, theres been no massive metal bands these days, except for maybe Metallica, but they havent wrote a good song in 10+ years. For death metal, it would be nice if bands like Opeth we're still played, but you honestly cant say.

I'm gonna say Guns N' Roses, Bob Dylan, Beatles, RATM, Steely Dan, Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd & Primus. That's a good mix.

Opeth, Pantera, Slayer and if In Flames albums can get back to, or above Colony or Whoracle potential I'd say In Flames would be a guess

    Ooh sooooo many choices!
I'd love my kids to listen to a bit of everything, but in particular Metallica, Pantera, Slayer, Queen, Muse, Dream Theater, Rage Against The Machine, Alanis Morisette (I love her), Misfits, early RHCP, Beastie Boys, Fear Factory, Less Than Jake and Green Day

And Pugsley how can ya say Metallica haven't written a good song in 10+ years? You condemning the likes of Fuel, King Nothing, Hero Of The Day, No Leaf Clover, The Memory Remains, I Disappear and Bleeding Me to name but a few? Come to your senses man!

I will be force feeding my children healthy doses of Minor Threat every morning with their porridge :p

I've lost anything of theirs that I had but Nightwish are one of the only metal bands I'd even bother to listen to now, and would like my kids to listen to.

I would imagine any good music wouldn't have "Shelf Time" as it were...
Otherwise we wouldn't still be listening to Mozart.

They'll listen to whatever they want to, I'd say.

    KoRn
    Deftones
    Tool
    Metallica
    Pantera
    System of a Down
    Mael Mórdha
and so on and so forth....

Well, these are the bands that my kids will be listening to if I ever have any.

Though if my girlfriend had her way it'd be mostly pop with some System and Metallica thrown in.

Sanity prevails. C'mon people. Is this thread what you want your kids to listen to or what you actually believe they'll listen to? Kids go through periods of rebellion, and doing things to spite either or both parent(s). I can guarantee they will listen to music you despise at some point during their teenage years.

U2, RHCP, Radiohead, Damien Rice, Oasis, Metallica, G'N'R', Nirvana and Manic Street Preachers will all no doubt still be selling albums. Maybe not quite in the quantities we'd buy the Beatles or the Stones still, but they'll still be doing okay off their back catalogues.

If only that would happen. All the kids will know is the trash they've put out for the last 6 years. No Uplift Mofo Party Plan or Mothers Milk for them I'd bet

Nice to see no-one mentioning Nirvana :D

My guess would be recent Chili's, Divine Comedy (can only get better with age), Jonh Frusciante (if they've any sense), Outkast, RATM.
Can't be arsed thinking up more.

    Nirvana
    Metallica
    RATM
    possibly In Flames

Apart from that, my children will hopefully listen to what i did when i was young; Thin Lizzy, Queen, the Dire Straits and then AC/DC, Iron Maiden, GunsN Roses ETC

Hopefully the children will be listening to:

    Smashing pumpkins
    Queens of the stone age
    Alice in chains
    System of a down
    tool
    Kyuss
    Muse
    Radiohead
    Iron Maiden
    Faith No More
    Chilli Peppers
    and Maybe Slipknot

I can't see bands like Limp Bizkit, HIM etc being remembered in 10/20 years time like Led Zepp, Black Sabbath are now.

Surprised no1 has mentioned David Bowie yet actually, Id like to see him still being listened to in over 10years time really.

I would certainly think that groups/peoples like Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Bowie will be listened to years away.... Anything that has lasted for a long time will surely live on for far longer.

A lot of people seem to think that their kids will listen to what they think is good music. But I wouldn't say many people are into a certain type of music because that's what their parents are into. I'd listen to some of the stuff my da likes, but it wouldn't be my favourite sort of stuff.

I'd say there'll be some new sort of genre to emerge, that most of us hate, and our kids will love, maybe just to piss us off.

I think we'll end up being ashamed of our kids tastes in music!

I agree with Fozzy, my dad liked bay city rollers, beach boys, abba, etc but I cant stand that stuff.. anyway Id say my kids would be listening to:

The Strokes (too underrated atm not to be popular in the future)
    Metallica
    Iron Maiden
    Megadeth
    Judas Priest
    Manowar
    AC/DC
    G'n'R
    Pantera
    Slayer

but in reality if theyre gonna listen to bands from my time, it will be bands that were most popular now, eg

    Slipknot
    Korn
    Marilyn Manson
    Linkin Park
    Limp Bizkit
    Papa Roach
    Rammstein
    Offspring

thats if they even listen to rock and metal, which they will cos metal will never die!
