Dell Dimension 4600i Combo RW/DVD drive troubles

    I recently bought a Dimension 4600i with a DVD/CDRW drive. This turned
    out to be a HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4481B unit.

Whenever I try to copy an audio CD, the unit makes an image on the hard
drive, then asks for an empty CD-R. So far, so good. But whatever brand of
CD-R we feed the unit (i.e. TDK, Platinum), it keeps spitting them all out
again, asking for a blank CD-R. I then tried Real Player 10 instead of Sonic RecordNow, but this gave the same result.

I googled and found someone else with the exact same problem (I actually pasted this post from another forum) but they were advised to call Dell and ask them for a new drive if he still had the 21 day customer satisfactory period (I have it about 3 months).

    Any idea's?

I used to sell computers as part of my job and i found it hillarious that **** loads of poeple would call back saying 'EH EXCUSE ME, MY DVD/CD-RW DOESNT BURN DVD's'.

You should try deleting all that software that you have on your machine and use something more relyable. Even using the cd-r that comes with windows would be a good lil test. Id also recommend Nero ;o

Windows XP comes with built in CD burning support but its not great. Previous versions of windows don't have any built in CD burning capabilities.
