SATA corruption

    my friends SATA hd corrupts itself every 6 or so months, i dont want the same thing to happen to me is there any way to help prevent it corrupting?

    Its probably because hes not treating it very well, defragging, virus scanning ...etc or the drive could be broken.

    I have 2 SATAs, one is nearly a year old and i've never had any issues with it.

    please post some details of your mates hardware.

    esp. chipset & sata controller chip

    For example a lot of Nforce2 boards + Sil3112a need to have "EXT-P2P's Discard Time" set to 1ms, to avoid corruption...

    its this mobo and this hard drive not too sure about his controller chip now

    that should be fine, controller is part of the southbridge, very modern and no issues that I can find.

    guess try the usual suspects check SMART info then memtest86+prime95, nothing like an unstable/oc'd system to corrupt a partition over time...

    You should be fine, don't worry! (always have backups, anyway :D)
