Who repairs LCD screens?

Just wondering can anyone point me in the right direction?
I bought a decent LCD flat screen monitor with my Gateway PC 4 years ago and it had never given me a moment's trouble till a "friend" who was looking after my place for a few days this week messed it up somehow.

Now when I boot up I can only see the very faintest icons on an almost totally dark screen. What could she have done to it? (She swears nothing) What might cause this? Is it terminal? Who could sort me out?

(No its not just that the brightness button is turned down to nil - I thought of that... varying that setting has no impact.)

    Any advice appreciated.

The backlight's probably gone. Try another monitor on your PC - if that's dark too, It'll be your video card.

But it'll probably end up being the backlight...

Is it on a hinge? Try moving it about a bit on the hinge. I've noticed if I grab mine by the sides and try to move it that way, strange patterns appear on screen for a few seconds. If I hold it top and bottom and then move it, everything is fine. I'd guess she moved it the "wrong way".

the screen went all dark on my laptop b4 so i hit the back of it and that kinda made it better then it gradually started working fully again

Seems to be the back light as you suggest. (Hitting, twisting and stroking it did not seem to work).

Could not find a useful item on the EIO site. Anyone got a recommendation of somewhere I could take the monitor in the Dublin area to get it fixed?
