Bonsai Help

Yep, I think I've killed my little bonsai guy. Left him in a window to get some sunlight and I think he went into thermal shock and all his leaves fell off.

I'm still watering him in the vain hope that he may be just in a coma! Wake up!

Am I wasting my time? Advice welcomed.

It might come back, just put it somewhere out of direct sunlight and be kind to it with a little fertiliser to make up for what it lost.

The Bonsai Shop in Powerscourt Centre, Dublin sells a revival tonic that brought my girlfriend's back from the near-dead a couple of times. It's in a fluroscent yellow bottle and works a treat.

Step 1- Remove all dead or yellow leaves.

Step two- Place it in a sink full to just below the rim of its pot, of ROOM TEMP water once a week, no more no less add ONE drop of food to said water.
OVER watering is usually what kills them, a soaking (always from the bottom by standing in water for an hour), once a week is more than enuf.

Step three- Place it in a position where it gets lots of light and humidity.

You should see new buds appearing on the branches appearing after about 10 days.

I have 8 bonsai, one for the last 5 years, and one for 8 years, this always worked for me when i bought "dead" trees cheap ;)

What you have is probably either a Zelkove, Lingustrum, serrissa, or a carmona. If it is, the above will work, and if it dosent there is no hope lol.

And, resist temptation, a bonsai should only ever be pruned once every 3 months *if needed* any more an it will go into shock.

    B

PS: the "revival" tonics are just a mixture of rooting hormone and miracle grow, and they do more damage than good as they make the bonsai try to revert to a huge tree lol.
